‘Indian’ Themed Taiwanese Restaurant Perpetuates Racism

People use different methods to promote their business and appeal to customers, even if it involves culture appropriation and promoting stereotypes.  Uncle Yu’s Indian Theme Restaurant, located in San Gabriel, California, serves Taiwanese food, while Asian-looking waitresses dress up as “Indians”.

It seems as though they décor and promote the restaurant through Native American attires and props, while perpetuating the false idea that Indians are the same as Native Americans; India is a South Asian country and this restaurant has failed to understand the difference.

There have been people who believe this is racist.  The Love Life of an Asian Guy, with over 200,000 followers on Facebook, shares his idea regarding this restaurant:

“Soo… apparently, there’s an ‘Indian themed’ restaurant in San Gabriel, CA with indigenous decorations, Chinese food on the menu, and Asian girls with ‘Indian’ outfits.  Just another case of Asians being racist pieces of shit.”
