Amped Asia

RE: Physical Appearance of Asian Men

I just read Asian Rake’s article on “The Physical Appearance of Asian Men

where he responds to something that I wrote in my article, “RE: Five

Reasons Asian Girls Like White Guys.” Basically he disagrees that I think the appearance of Asian men is less physically impressive than Caucasian men. I

think he makes some valid points but misses on the core of my argument.

First off I’d like to say that my statement about Asian men being less “tall, big, muscular, and athletic” is just my own observation. I don’t claim to be a

CIA world fact book with measurements regarding the physical stature of Asian and Caucasian men. However, let’s take a look at why I think this way and why

many people perceive Asian men in this way (causing the negative stereotypes).

As a girl raised in the United States I saw the stereotypes of Asian men being smaller and weaker than Caucasian men with my own eyes. In my article I am not

talking about all Asians, just westernized Asians. It’s not relevant for me to say why Asian girls like white guys if I was talking about globally. Then

naturally Asian girls would have to prefer Asian men simply due to the sheer number of Asians in the world. Still I’ll be open minded and think about this

issue on a global scale.

Asian Rake claims that the people of Northern China are very large, and I’m sure he is right, but this is an extreme example with a small sample size.

However, if we’re going to take into account global measurements why not take a look at the average heights instead of a quantity measurement (which Asians

should win since they have more population). In studies by various researchers of men born about 1950, the Norwegians and Dutch are the tallest in the world,

with an average height of 178 centimeters(about 5 feet 10 inches), followed by Swedes at 177 centimeters. Americans are next at 175 centimeters (about 5 feet

9 inches). Notice that the top three are countries that are Caucasian dominated.

Asian Rake says that Yao Ming is the tallest guy in the NBA? True. The tallest man is Chinese? Also true. However, these two extreme samples don’t prove

anything. There are only maybe three tall Chinese guys in the NBA when there are several tall Caucasian and African men. With half the world’s population,

Asia still couldn’t produce more than a handful of guys who could compete at the highest level of a sport that requires the traits that I’m talking about

(strength, height, stature, etc). Even worse is American Football where there are barely any Asian players at all, much less a superstar. Even in a sport

like tennis where pure athleticism wins over strength and stature, there are very few Asian players that can compete with the Russians, Americans, and

Europeans. With such a high population of course there will be a few, even several who have the body to compete at high levels in strength training and

athletics, but there’s a bigger picture than just comparing athletes of both races who are competing at the highest level. Of course China is going to train

great gymnasts and ping pong players, but just because they have some great athletes in those sports doesn’t mean the whole race is athletic. And let’s take

a look at the winnings of the 2008 Olympics. Looking at the medals of the Olympics, China did win the most Gold medals. Who won the most medals overall?

America. Where was the second largest Asian population India? Nowhere to be found. Where were the other Caucasian countries? Right near the top. Also what

country usually wins the most Golds? The United States. How many Asian-Americans made the United States team? Few if any. It seems Asian Rake was too pre-

occupied with talking about China that he didn’t realize that if we’re going to be talking about Asians as a whole, we have to look at the averages of the

overall ASIAN population not just China.

Asian Rake claims that the body of Brad Pitt isn’t too hard to achieve. Well apparently it’s pretty hard to achieve since only a very small percentage of

males in the world can have a body like his (although I’m not sure how to research statistics on this, I am pretty sure that it would be quite difficult to

have a body like Pitt’s or else everyone would have one). I also believe that Asian guys CAN achieve it, but in my article I’m not talking about his body

specifically. If you notice I wrote about “Where in Asia can you find the charismatic and dominant equivalent of Brad Pitt in Fight Club” I didn’t say “Where

in Asia can you find people who have a body like Brad Pitt.” The keyword here is the charismatic and dominant portrayal of Tyler Durden that Brad Pitt

displayed that is really key. I just don’t see any Asian actors who can replicate that presently. The issue I wanted to address with the Brad Pitt example

was that Asian men are simply not as dominant with their words or their actions as they could and should be.

My whole argument on just the body issue is this exactly: “Asian-American men living in the United States on average are shorter, less muscular, and

less athletic than Caucasian men.” Even though many people could say that this is true globally, I’m only making the assertion that it is absolutely true in

the United States, and I’m willing to bet that if there was some kind of universally fair physical test that was given to every American man and every Asian

-American man, the Americans would get more points. You can argue with me all you want, but the stereotype is there for a reason. Although stereotypes don’t

hold true for everyone, there is a reason why they exist. You don’t see black guys with Asian stereotypes, and you don’t see Asian guys with black

stereotypes.

Still I want to say that I’m not writing this to discourage Asian men on any level. In fact I’m hoping that Asian men will read this, get inspired to change

themselves, and make differences in their lives. I am Asian and I love my Asian heritage, but sometimes I’m just fed up with Asian guys that simply need to

“man up” and ask me out on a date or I’m mad that some Asian guys don’t care enough about their body. There’s no one to blame for this phenomenon. Asian men

were blessed with other attributes that Caucasian men weren’t blessed with. I don’t want to be the bearer of bad news, but I’m simply trying to get some of

my thoughts out there. Instead of having Asian men whining that white guys are stealing their girls, why not go out and steal some white girls?

That’s it from me.

Love, Rochelle
