Asian Men: Medium-Length Hair Tips

So do you have medium-length hair and would like to add some flavor to it? The good thing is that Asian male hair is probably the most versatile when it’s medium-length. For most of the styles in this guide you’ll need some strong hair gel. I recommend getting some Gatsby Ultra Hard hair wax or any of their moving rubber series that you can buy online.

Style #1: Fauxhawk

This kind of style is very popular right now for Asian men. A messy fauxhawk can exude confidence and portray a rebellious side. A good example of this hair style is Aaron Yoo’s hair from Disturbia.

To style this kind of hairstyle you’ll need a strong hair gel. The length of your hair doesn’t matter, however, the shorter your hair the easier it will be to get your fauxhawk ready in the morning, but having a longer fauxhawk can also create a cooler, messier effect. Simply spread some hairgel on your fingers and palms and evenly distribute the gel throughout your hair. Once your hair has enough gel, start smoothing your hair into a fauxhawk style with your palms. You may need to have your barber cut it so that the middle of your hair is longer than the sides. Tell your barber that you are looking to achieve a fauxhawk and he should be able to help.

Style #2: Medium-long Straight Shag

This is a very conservative hairstyle that can still look great on Asian men. This kind of hairstyle portrays a professional yet fashionable personality. The best thing about this hairstyle is that it can work for almost any profession and any person. A good example of this hairstyle is Kim Bum in Boys Before Flowers.

The key with this kind of hair style is the length. You’ll need longer bangs (long enough to cover your eyes) and also semi-long sideburns. Tell your stylist to cut your hair a little thinner when you try to achieve this kind of hairstyle. The thinner your hair the easier it will be to style. Use a little bit of gel and run through your hair. Move your bangs to one side in order to avoid blocking your vision. Use gel to shape your hair.

Style #3: Medium-long Wavy

This kind of hair is for the guys who want to look like Asian drama idols. It is a feminine, metro sexual look that can work for some guys. This type of hair is very hard to achieve for most. It requires one to use a curling iron (unless one has naturally curly hair) and have experience with curling their hair. You don’t want it too curled, but you need a little bit of curl in order to create the wavy look. A lot of gel is also necessary to shape the hair. A good example of this kind of hair is Kim Jong Kook from the ban, Turbo.

After putting moderate curls into your hair (you don’t want it to be so tightly curled that you have an afro), spread a decent amount of gel throughout your hair. Then you must use the gel in your hair to shape it. Using two fingers you’ll need to shape the flares of the hair (the parts of your hair that stand up). Here is a small video tutorial by Gatsby
