Asian Men: How to Appear Older

Asian guys face a problem that many women would consider a blessing. They look too young and immature. A lot of you might be saying, “Thats not a problem!” But let’s consider the facts. While women crave being young because men love dating the youngest woman possible, the same is not true for men. Women like older men! At some point in your life, ages between male and female won’t matter (like when you start dating 40 year old women and you’re 39), but when you’re a 25 year old who looks like a 17 year old, that’s when you start encountering “fuck-offs” when you start hitting on chicks at the club (and no one likes those). So in an effort to help my fellow Asian man, here are some tips to help you look a little more mature and more desirable to the opposite sex.

Grow Some Stylized Facial Hair

And I don’t mean a Mexican stache or a full beard. Go for a little bit of hair on the chin. I know not all Asian guys are going to have this possibility just due to genetic reasons, but if you can grow some facial hair, do it and also make sure you keep it under control as well. Furthermore, I would say that most Asian guys would do better with some stubble on the chin over a mustache.

Don’t go overboard with the facial hair. Just a bit will do wonders to make you look older.

Just be careful, because a lot of girls dislike the stubble when you kiss them.

Shorter and Neater Hairstyles

The shorter your hairstyle, the older you will look. That’s why guys with buzz cuts look more mature (and more gangster-ish too). Consequently the longer your hair and the more bangs you have, the younger (and more Justin Bieber-ish) you’re going to look.

Short hair gives a sense of professionalism, something that people associate with age and maturity.

Also the messier your hair, the younger you’re going to appear. The more professional and neat your haircut is, the more mature you will look.

Also don’t mistake mature with “better looking.” A lot of Asian guys can rock the short messy styles and look really good. But for the purposes of looking more mature and older, the shorter, neater hairstyle wins.

Increase your size

Most important is your shoulder width. Generally the wider your shoulders, the more you are perceived to be masculine and developed. Get in the gym and start doing the shoulder exercises. But actually any increase in size helps you look a bit older (even fat, but I don’t recommend gaining size in the form of fat). Increase your muscle tone and your shoulder width and you’ll be seen as more mature and older.

The bigger you are the older you will look.

However, you can also increase the illusion of size with your clothes. Jackets that have a hard shoulder will give your shoulders more width. Some button up shirts also have shoulder pads that will give you more size in the shoulder area.

Wear appropriate attire

To appear older you are going to want to dress older. This means you might need to shell out a little dough for some more sophisticated clothing.

For brands that you might want to look at, check out the stuff at H&M, Armani Exchange, Theory, Urban Outfitters, and for cheaper stuff check out Heritage 21 (really good stuff for cheap). Also get a subscription to GQ while you’re at it.

Hollister doesn’t fly anymore when you’re no longer a teenager.

Also you need a good pair of smart casual shoes. I recommend checking out Aldo for men’s shoes (that’s where I get mine).

Clothing items to avoid: Baseball caps, teen-branded clothing (Abercrombie, Hollister, etc), baggy clothes.

Fun Tip: Get a Fake ID

If you’re under 21 and you’re at the club, your X gives you away. Not to mention not being able to purchase drinks probably lowers your social value more than a big deformed bump on your head. Get that fake ID (or borrow an older friends id), and start buying drinks at the club!
