The Outsiders Review
Three brothers, Yu Hao, Dan Zi, and Yang Xiong Qi, are known in their school as the toughest and most popular. They oftentimes fight and because of this, they have many enemies. One night, while Yu Hao is alone, he is ambushed by a gang member known as Mouse. Pei Yu Yen, a female student at the same school, happened to be nearby and saved Yu Hao by calling the cops. Yu Hao begins to develop feelings for Pei Yu Yen and will stop at nothing to protect her. But Pei Yu Yen is from a very different background, and is warned to stay away from the troublesome Yu Hao. Are they truly destined for each other?
Wow, incredible drama. This isn't your typical Asian gangster series, The Outsiders is a deep, moving, sentimental drama that will keep you watching. It's not so much action as it is romance, as there isn't any real choreographed fighting. The great characters and the bond each character shares is truly well developed.
Yu Hao is great in his role as the eldest brother. His character is so dynamic throughout the series that you really get emotionally attached to him. Pei Yu Yen is also great as the female lead. Yen played by one of the prettiest Taiwanese actresses, An Yi Xuan, and she is great in this role. The two brothers to Yu Hao, Dan Zi and Yang Xiong Qi, also have very distinct personalities, and they are played by very popular actors. The best part about The Outsiders is that it has a topnotch cast of Taiwanese actors and actresses.
Sadly, the series doesn't end too happily. Personally, a happy ending is what I like most in a series, but I still enjoyed the story of Yu Hao and Pei Yu Yen. Some may feel like the quality of the series is lowered after watching the finale, yet I thought it was a sad, but appropriate ending to a very suspenseful series.
Great sound tracks are present throughout this series. The opening theme is very sentimental and soft, which at first glance might not seem appropriate for a gangster movie, but after viewing this series you'll find that the song is incredibly fitting for the mood of the story.
If you are looking for a happy ending, then The Outsiders isn't the series for you. This series is sad, dramatic, but ultimately exciting. It's a very enjoyable drama even if you don't enjoy the final ending. Unlike some dramas, this one isn't really a chick flick, and it will probably appeal to boys more than girls. A part of this can be attributed to the hot lead actress and the violent and risque content that is prevalent throughout the series.
