Peach Girl Review
The story begins when Xiao Tao enters a new college not knowing what to expect. In the beginning, things did not go her way, as she had to endure a very tough start to her college life. Her first friend, Sha Hui, the university's reigning princess, actually turns out to be her worst enemy. Her secret crush, Dong Si, is the boy she liked since their days in high school together. During the first time she attended a dance, she danced with popular playboy and troublesome Ah Li. The girls at her school start to become jealous of Xiao Tao, wondering how a nobody like Xiao Tao could catch the attention of one of the two most popular boys in the school. She eventually becomes reacquainted with Dong Si. This turns out to be happiness for Xiao Tao when she finally starts dating him. The only obstacle in her way is Sha Hui, who is driven by deep jealousy and anger. She is determined to remain the most popular girl at their school, even if it means destroying Xiao Tao's life and happiness. Ah Li has also made it known that the only girl he wants is Xiao Tao. Choosing between Ah Li and Dong Si is not easy for Xiao Tao. Having to endure through Sha Hui's evil plots, Xiao Tao eventually makes the decision according to how her heart truly feels.
The protagonist of the story is the character, Xiao Tao. Most of the series is from her point of view. As expected, most of the events that happen revolve around her except for a couple of them. The series is called Peach Girl because her name in Mandarin literally means "little peach." The two other characters, Dong Si and Ah Li, are the guys she will eventually meet and have intimate relationships with each of them. Dong Si is the boy she initially liked. They have attended high school together and now are looking forward to going to the same college for the same reasons, although neither know about the other's feelings.
For most of the series, Xiao Tao chooses Dong Si over Ah Li. Dong Si is the boy that she is expected to be with at the end of the series, but many things go wrong for Xiao Tao and Dong Si's relationship. Just when they were starting to get really close to each other, a catastrophe breaks out and stops their close relationship. One reason is because of Ah Li, the other boy that Xiao Tao had a relationship with. Initially, Xiao Tao isn't interested in Ah Li, although she is accused of liking him. To her, Ah Li was only an annoying kid that had fun annoying and distracting girls. Xiao Tao will eventually find out that Ah Li's love for her is real and that he will not love anybody else but her. She eventually falls in love with Ah Li as her relationship with Dong Si is constantly being broken up.
The fourth main character of the story, Sha Hui, is the antagonist of the story. At first she seems like a very nice character and not like the heartless character she turns out to be at the end. She was Xiao Tao's only good friend until Xiao Tao became more popular than her. Then, filled with hate and antagonism, she turns on her best friend and becomes a very cruel and unlikable person. She is the reason of the many conflicts that spurred up throughout the series. These four characters played the biggest roles in the series.
The storyline is pretty straightforward with one event logically leading up to the next. Each event made sense, and there are not any unnecessary incidents that did not contribute to the purpose of the plot. The series is not too long or too short. If the series were made any longer, the viewer would fall asleep, but on the other hand, if the series were made any shorter, the viewer would be left confused. The characters are all unique in their own ways, which is the result of good acting by the actors. The experiences of college life and how each character has to solve his or her problems were entertaining to watch.
There is not very much music in this series, but the starting theme song, The One I Love Is You, by Lee Hom Wang, is a nice song. There was nothing shabby about the music, but it just didn't really stand out too much.
Although this series is different than some of the other ones, it is well worth watching for people who like school romances and a story based on revenge, jealousy, love, and friendship. Overall, I would have to say the series is worth a watch.
