My Sassy Girl Review
My Sassy Girl is a romantic comedy that launched the careers of the two main actors. It's the typical story of a blossoming young love that endures hardships and problems. Cha Tae-Hyun is cast as the college student Gyeon-woo, a not-so-bright guy that has a good heart. Jun Ji-Hun plays Cha's love interest, whose name is never given in the movie. Gyeon-woo meets this girl at a train station, where she was drunk and standing very close to the train platform. He saves her from the train and later takes her to a hotel room when he realizes that she is very ill. Thus begins their bittersweet love affair.

To be honest, this movie is highly regarded by most Korean fans, yet it didn't stand out to me. Sure it's a touching story, and interesting, but it's not the masterpiece that I was expecting. The main reason I think the movie was so widely acclaimed was that it had a great ending, and is a very clever movie. The humor was good, but not spectacular.

Cha Tae-Hyun shines in his role as Gyeon-woo. This actor was perfect for the bumbling-but-pure-hearted-fool role. Although not particularly good-looking, this actor makes up for it with his wonderful personality. Jun Ji-Hun shows off a somewhat tomboyish and rebellious persona in her role as the Girl. Jun Ji-Hun is pretty, especially from the face down, but her image in this movie didn't really take advantage of this. Jun shows that she is quite a versatile actress capable of doing sad scenes, tough-girl scenes, and funny scenes as well. There aren't many other characters worth mentioning in this film, as the two leads are the only important characters, and this really allowed for deep character development.

All in all, this movie is good and clever, but don't expect it to be a masterpiece. Know that you are going to watch a funny and entertaining movie, yet be prepared to be sad during a few parts.
