Mission Impossible III Review
When going into Mission Impossible III, just think about what kind of a disappointment Mission Impossible 2 was, and you'll realize how good this movie is. Honestly, MI3 is one of the best movies I've seen this summer, and I don't even like Tom Cruise.
Tom Cruise reprises his role as Ethan Hunt, an IMF agent that has retired from the field. His new love interest is Michelle Monaghan, who plays his fiance, Julia. Ethan is called back to duty after an IMF agent is captured by an international weapons dealer named Owen Davian (Phillip Seymour Hoffman). In the process Davian also gets a hold of Ethan's wife, threatening to kill her if Ethan doesn't bring him the 'Rabbit's Foot,' a weapon of mass-destruction.
The movie has great special effects, and it definitely tops the list in terms of action. If you are an action movie fan, this movie will definitely get your adrenaline going. The thing is, the action compromises the story development, and we have a semi-weak storyline that doesn't give proper introduction to the characters and their history. Without watching the first two Mission Impossible movies, you'll feel as if they just threw together the character of Ethan Hunt. With that being said, the movie doesn't introduce Ethan Hunt's old and new sidekicks well either. The character that was best developed was probably Davian, and most of this is attributed to the talented actor (Phillip Seymour Hoffman) that portrayed him.
For anyone looking for good action, then look no further than Mission Impossible III. While it's no Oscar-winner, there are plenty of thrills in this movie to keep anyone satisfied. If you're looking for a deeper storyline or a movie that will make you think, MI3 probably won't satisfy your needs.
The Asian Factor
Maggie Q is the lone Asian (half-asian actually) in this movie's cast, but she is quite stunning in this movie. While she is relatively unknown to most, she has made short appearances in movies such as Rush Hour 2. Maggie looks great in this movie, although she is definitely not as beautiful as many other Asian actresses. Her role is of a supporting agent to Ethan Hunt, but her role in Mission Impossible III can be considered prominent. Besides her, some of the locations of this movie are in China.
