It Started with a Kiss 2 Review
Following the story sequel of
It Started With A Kiss, It begins with Zhi Shu and Xiang Qin on their honeymoon. Along the way, they meet a couple, Mary and Ah Qiao where Mary lust upon Zhi Shu. Mary attempted many schemes just to get Zhi Shu closer to her. In the process, this led to a less romantic honeymoon for the both of them. After they got back from their honeymoon, the couples faced many problems and interferences within their marriage such as: mistaken pregnancy, misunderstandings, and a run-in with a girl from Zhi Shu's past. In the process, they both learn to become husband and wife and to really open up to each other. With the inspiration of Xiang Qin's wish of seeing Zhi Shu become a doctor, Zhi Shu settled himself on her wish. In the process, Xiang Qin, who is still as clumsy and slow as ever, attempts to try out a few occupations being a teacher and a nurse.
I thought it was not a wise move of her at first to even think of becoming a nurse because whatever she does, she never does it right. Worst part about it is that you're dealing upon another person's health; the patients would most definitely want you to know what you're doing at all times. But in the end, my thoughts slowly changed because she's proven herself to handle such job. Along the way, Xiang Qin meets four new friends with some side subplots following the love story of Ah Jin and Christine and Chun Mei's marriage.
Throughout the series, I always thought Xiang Qin's character can be really annoying at times. Whatever she gets her mind or hands on, her expectation of perfect scenery ALWAYS turns into a disaster. It just doesn't seem realistic to my opinion. Also, I was expecting more of this character to be more obedient on reality than living on imaginary fantasies. Other than that, I thought Ariel Lin did an excellent job on portraying the clumsy, slow, and determine, Xiang Qin. *THUMBS UP* She performed this character flawlessly. Even though her characters can be quite annoying, I enjoyed her character throughout the series! On a side note, no wonder why she won the Best Actress at the 43rd Golden Bell Award for this series.
Another excellent performance by Joe Cheng portraying Jiang Zhi Shu. To my surprise, he portrayed the smart and cold-hearted Zhi Shu really well. Even though he is not really well known for main roles, I definitely love the chemistry that he had with Ariel within the series. Also, he looked really handsome within this sequel, no wonder why all the girls lust for him.
The series introduced many unfamiliar faces where many of them played minor roles. All of them portrayed their characters well. There is nothing bad to say about them. I loved that Ah Jin found someone else and what was really funny to me was that she was foreign; I really loved her character. Christine is like an English version of Ariel.
Also, I thought it was such a bad move to switch Zhi Shu's little brother, Yu Shu into this other kid. I thought his acting wasn't up to par compared to the first one on portraying that character. Knowing Yu Shu got older; the producers had no choice but to switch.
The series is 20 episodes long. To my opinion, I thought the series flew by so fast and was expecting more episodes because at the end, they ended to the part where Xiang Qin is pregnant and her eyesight is failing on her. I was hoping for the series to be as least 30+ episodes. Knowing that the sequel might not be continued, it saddens me that I won't know what lives take on the couple!
For soundtrack, I really liked the soundtrack they chose for this series. There are quite a few songs in it that you might like that you can just listen to relax yourself or even dance to it like the theme song. There isn't anything bad I can say about it.
This series definitely became one of my favorite Taiwanese dramas. After the show, I've become a fan of Ariel Lin and Joe Cheng. I'm in high hopes to see another sequel of "ISWAK 1 & 2" where their lives take them when Xiang Qin is pregnant. This is a recommended sequel to watch! If you're like me and you like romantic, drama, tear-jerker types of movies or series, then this is definitely something you can't miss!
