Synopsis & Review

Mrs. Park and Mi-Ja are found by police officers in Mrs. Park’s countryside home, barely alive. Along with them, the officers also find several dead bodies. They are taken to the hospital to mend their wounds, where Mi-Ja gains consciousness. After grieving, she reports to the officer about the events that took place prior to them being found.

Mi-Ja tells the officer about Mrs. Park’s background as an elementary school teacher, who had a deformed child with her late husband. Because of Mrs. Park’s shame, she hid her child in the basement of her house. Many years later, Mrs. Park is depressed and sickly, and Mi-Ja, one of her former students came to take care of her. Mi-Ja decides to reunite Mrs. Park’s old students together for a class reunion in an effort to cheer up the retired teacher.

A group of Mrs. Park’s former students come to see her, but not everything is what they seem. Although the former students look happy at first, each of them reveals a past where they were somehow scorned by their teacher. Mysteriously, each of the students begin to die one by one...

Bloody Reunion is a pretty terrible name for this film. It makes it sound like it’s some B-rated horror movie. In fact, this film has a very well thought out plot and concept. Because I’m such an avid fan of horror movies, I usually can predict events in movies way before they happen. Nothing is predictable in Bloody Reunion, and the ending where everything ties together was completely mind-blowing.

For the first three quarters of the film, Bloody Reunion plays out like the typical serial killer and slasher movie. A killer in a mask. Deaths every few minutes. Some mysterious characters showing up. Torture scenes. Overall the deaths are quite tame compared to some American slasher films. It tried to be a little exploitative with its deaths, but overall there weren't as many gross-out moments as there are in other films.

The last fourth of the film is where the truth about what happened is revealed. The way they concluded the film was quite different than the typical horror movie. There wasn’t just one twist at the end like an M. Night Shymalan movie. There were several twists and turns all throughout the film; making the audience question everything that happens.

If you’re a fan of horror films and slasher films, Bloody Reunion will not disappoint.
