Bangkok Dangerous Review
An assassin named Joe goes to Bangkok to carry out four murders. To be good at what he does, he stays very secretive about his activities, but as he stays longer in Bangkok he begins to break his rules one by one. He starts to fall for a local woman named Fon and begins a friendship with a kid named Kong. The longer he stays in Bangkok, the more he realizes how much he dislikes what he does.

What attracted me to this movie was hottie, Panward Hemmanee, but unfortunately she barely has a role in this film. Nothing really stood out about this film because it was a run-of-the-mill Hollywood thriller. The storyline was dull and chock full of typical Hollywood clichés. The ending was also a disaster.

From the beginning we have the mysterious assassin (Cage) who makes up a set of rules. He goes on to break all the rules that he sets for himself without a proper explanation. Why did he even mention the rules in the first place? Then the action starts with him killing a few people and then "realizing" that he may be a bad guy when he's hired to kill a man who is highly regarded amongst the Thai people. The last bit is a Matrix-style suicide mission that ends badly for our main character. The loose ends weren't tied up at the story's resolution. What happens to his love interest? Why did he end the story the way he did?

The movie's slow pace had me yawning throughout the film. Action scenes were wrapped up pretty quickly and I can really only think of two main action scenes. One has Cage trying to kill someone while paddling his boat and another is the final act of the movie (which was decent). For being rated R, the movie could have easily been Pg-13 by removing a few scenes of nudity and one scene of an arm being severed by a boat motor. Dr. Seuss would say that the movie was pretty tame and pretty lame.

Nicolas Cage plays the Joe the assassin. I've never been a big fan of cage and this movie was no exception. Cage has very little personality and charisma, and his portrayal of Joe was very mediocre. The rest of the characters were equally lackluster and I don't really feel the need to emphasize how average they were.

Don't see it unless you're out of options. Bangkok Dangerous is a second-rate action film that should have been a straight to DVD movie.
