Aim for the Ace Review
Aya Ueto, a famous Japanese singer, is the star in Ace wo nerae (Aim for the Ace). She plays the main character, Hiromi Oka. Hiromi enrolls into Nishi High School as she falls in love with the game of tennis. She applies for the tennis team, however, notices the tremendous amount of difference in skill she has compared to the other regular members of the team. Nevertheless, the new coach of the school, Coach Munakata sees that Hiromi has potential and begins to train her. The other teammates thought this was unfair and began despising Hiromi. Hiromi, trapped in ambivalence, does not know whether to continue this training.

Ace wo nerae consists of nine 45-minute long episodes. Each episode tackles down an unsolved problem as another wall of conflict rises up creating nine effective episodes. It's a relatively short series, but this makes the pace seem very quick and exciting.

Although tennis is the main theme in this movie, love appears as a relief to the tension on the training. While Hiromi trains with Coach Munakata, she falls in love with a man named Takayuki Todo. They both learned to help each other as the aimed for higher level tennis.

Ace wo nerae also contains good OST with good songs sang by the actor, Aya Ueto herself. The main theme, Ai no tameni is a great song for this movie as it perfectly fits the tensional, but romantic drama.

In my opinion, Takayuki Todo is the hero in this movie. He is always on Hiromi's side and bolsters her confidence. He himself becomes a talented tennis player and proves to Hiromi that he is the one she truly loves. Hiromi is also an important hero that contributes in this movie. Through hard training and work, she disproves her teammates and shows them that nothing is impossible.

The acting is decent, and despite the fact that the main actress is actually a pop singer, she pulls of the role nicely. Aya Ueto is incredibly cute, and she is great in her role. Her love interest, Takayuki Todo, is also played by a talented and realistic actor. Some parts of the series were a bit exaggerated, but this series was meant to be funny and a bit silly.

In Ace, there are conflicts between Hiromi and the world of tennis; however, the romantic aspect of this movie is what really appealed to me. As a fan and avid player of the sport of tennis, I thought this drama was realistically shown (action wise) and other than that, Ace has an interesting love story woven into its main conflict. It's a good series for anyone that doesn't enjoy dramas that are too serious or involve life-threatening deaths. I strongly recommend this series to everyone.
