Why did they lie
When i was a child they said that when year 2000 or comes, as a people humans will be so advance that we would be living on the moon and driving cars that fly. Well is 2007 - Where is my flying car? I want my flying cars.
But what's really sad is i think we have the technology or would have had the tech to do such things if the 'higherups' weren't so focus on money. I mean we could have converted from fosil fuels along time ago. The first prototypes of cars actually ran on electric and hydro power but fosil fuel was much cheaper at that time and easy to get a large supplies of...hence or dependence on fosil fuel was set.

RE: Why did they lie
Yea they also said it in Back to the Future! The future in it looked so cool! There were flying cars everywhere! I just don't know how we'd be able to have control how to fly a car through traffic like that though. It'd be scary. We DO have hover cars, but probably not the ones you think lol. The current hover car models looks so inconvenient

RE: Why did they lie
I don't think they lied, we're just slow or overly ambitious... lol...
Okay, to answer the "flying cars", I've read this article on the Reader's Digest November 2007 issue... Please read on:
Look, Up In The Sky
It's a bird, it's a plane... no, it's you ride!
We've been under the impression that we would have robot maids, live on the moon, and zip around in flying cars before we hit the year 2000. We may have been a little presumptous, but at least the "flying cars" fantasy is making some progress.
Futuristic carmaker Moller International has invented a "flying saucer" car that it hopes will change the way we commute. If the Californian company gets its way, we'll be zipping about the Jetsons sooner than we think.
According to Moller spokespeople, this eight-engine craft is spacious, easy to operate, can run on petrol, diesel or even ethanol. It takes off and lands vertically like a helicopter and can hover up to three meters off the ground. Any higher and the driver would need a pilot's license.
A piece of the future can be yours from just $90,000. Moller hopes to begin selling this invention by next year and expand production to 250 annually.
Here are some images:

This image shows that it really flew... lol

From the Moller International website, there are 6 designs...

RE: Why did they lie
That funny - the flying cars. I wonder how loud they are? And it really looks like the Jetson's ride

RE: Why did they lie
what about driving in tunnels? will they go inside the tunnel or over?!? I guess they won't follow the normal paths, streets or highway... if that is the case I wonder what will the traffic patrol do when you overspeed using the flying cars... maybe invent a flying car swatter... lol..

RE: Why did they lie
If I ever get one of those (I'm sure I will in the future) I'm going to get a pilot's license. Or maybe once they are a household item, a flying saucer license >_<. Well I need one so I can fly higher than 3 meters, cuz that's still pretty low and I might even go slower because of traffic that would still be in the way....

RE: Why did they lie
Awww.. I'm taken back to almost a decade ago when I read off the newspaper about flying cars at the start of the new millenium but yeah, I don't see any either. But hey, they ARE trying. Cars that run on electricity have been manufactured before but they didn't become a trend.
But now, I am still waiting for hover-cars. HAHA. Good for the Moller company, trying to actualize the dreams of us children.
