[Updated] Baek Apologizes For Online Rumors Of Choi Jin Shil

A woman only known as Baek is being investigated by the police for spreading false rumors online about Choi loaning money to the passed away actor, Ahn Jae-Hwan, which drove him to commit suicide.

The rumor also put Choi to an emotional breakdown which drove her to hang herself on the day of October 2.

Thousands of comments were posted on various website displaying their hateful gratitude amongst Baek for the leading cause of death of Shil. Some sites had comments like "I want you do be under the same pain, same stress as Choi Jin Shil" or "You made Choi Jin-shil die!"

Netizens went as far as displaying personal information about her across the internet. They have revealed photos of her and her boyfriend, what university she goes to, and which church she frequently attends, and etc.

All the entertainment sites that had information about Baek quickly removed their articles including the pictures, and links. Unfortunately, many has already seen them.

As Baek is being investigated, the police said that Baek revealed receiving calls from Shil on the day of her death, but couldn't reply in time because she didn't feel well. She also said that she called Choi Jin Shil on September 30th and begged for her forgiveness for spreading the rumors.

Baek said she really regrets for what she has done and how much it has hurt Choi's feelings while they were both on the telephone.

The police are planning to prosecute Baek and three other of her coworkers for making up rumors along with her.

Her apologies were too late! Even if Choi Jin Shil didn't commit suicide, the moral damages were already planted!

Sometimes, netizens thought that they are above the law... they're so tactless that they never think of the consequences on the lives of the ones they wrote about... let what happened to her be an example to all tactless bloggers...

and with this news, hope that Choi Jin Shil will finally rest in peace!

It seems that Baek didn't apologize or is remorseless based from Choi Jin Young's (Choi Jin Shil's brother) account written in his entry entitled "My Sister Who was Wronged"... It was also reported that Baek text messaged: "hehe, I have safely escaped" the police officers in charge of her case, after evading the waiting media outside the police station.

Choi added, "Baek said she doesn't know where she forwarded the rumors from….does she think we are idiots? My sister told me the day before she died, that it was so scary and torturous to hear her (Baek) devil-like voice over the phone. (Baek had called Choi Jin Shil the day before). I just want to know the truth and hope that she makes a public apology."

It's really sad that people would spread false rumours over the net. Things written on the net spread so quickly to so many people.
I agree with 4jpz's first reply, but I think an apology late is better than never.
In response to 4jpz's second reply (above), I hope she will soon understand the consequence of her actions and apologise wholeheartedly.

The story behind the story of Choi Jin Shil's recent suicide is an extremely convoluted and rumor filled disaster.

But one things for sure. The heartless netizen that started it all, Baek Seung Yun. Baek Seung Yun released rumors about Choi Jin Shil and that she was the cause of actor Ahn Jae Hwan's suicide.

A little background, Ahn Jae Hwan had borrowed an extremely high interest loan of approximately 4 million dollars from loan sharks to start a wine bar. The business failed and Ahn Jae Hwan was unable to pay off his debts. Baek Seung Yun, started a rumor that Choi Jin Shil had loaned Ahn Jae Hwan a good portion of the money, then later hired gangsters to threaten Ahn Jae Hwan into paying, ultimately leading to his suicide.

Choi Jin Shil was already suffering from depression and the suicide of a close friend of hers (Ahn Jae Hwan), was devastating. Then, when Baek Seung Yun started the rumor, Choi Jin Shil completely broke down. In addition, Baek Seung Yun had somehow discovered Choi Jin Shil's personal cell phone number and contacted her, furthering Choi Jin Shil's depression and shock.

The media and authorities have kept all of this under the blankets, but the truth has now only begun to leak. Not sure what will be of Baek Seung Yun, however, recent reports show that she is completely heartless and nonchalant about the entire situation that she has created.

I know somethings are better left untold, but at the same time, Choi Jin Shil deserves the truth to be revealed. Rest in peace.
