The King and the Clown (movie)
I can't believe no one's made this review yet?
About: is a 2005 South Korean film, adapted from the 2000 Korean play titled "Yi", ("You") about Yeonsangun of Joseon, a Joseon dynasty king who falls in love with a court clown who mocks him. The movie is based on a small passage from the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty that briefly mentions the king's favorite clown. It was the highest grossing (over $85,000,000 in domestic receipts) Korean film in history with 12.3 million viewers, surpassing total admissions of Silmido and Taegukgi until the horror film The Host surpassed the record in summer of 2006. Production costs were relatively modest for a Korean film, approximately $4.5 million dollars.
There are alternative titles of this movie: The King's Men or The King's Man (the literal translation of the Korean title) and All the King's Men (working title).
This film was chosen by Korea as its submission for the Oscars in the best foreign film category.
(taken off wiki)
Synopsis:Set in Joseon dynasty Korea,Ministrels on the run Gong gli & Jang-seng escape from a cruel manager ( I suppose that's what he is) and make their way to seoul and join other ministrels in putting on a show. Learning about the King and his favorite courtesan Nuk su, Jang-seng decides to mok them. As they are acting out thier show the King happens to pass by, they are captured but surely the king brings them into the palace for them to perform for them. During this time they put on a show for the king exposing his enemies an the curruption in the palace. However, that is not the only thing the king has interest in he is very taken of Gong gil (Lee Jun Ki). Adding to the plot Nuk su becomes jealous of this and plans to get rid of Gong gil.
I wont give anymore away.
Review: It was genius, in my eyes I've never seen a film done so...purely, the Love triangle between Jang sen the king and Gong gil was so silent but you could see the longing in their eyes. Great cast, even the transition of the play from to the film was great. Strongly recomend it

RE: The King and the Clown (movie)
wow. now i really want to see it. I really like when you can see the hidden desires in the eyes, but the person that they long for either doesn't realize it or doesn't see it at all. what's worse is when they see it and ignore it, effectively shutting down a potential partner. i hope silentregrets has it. silentregrets, what a perfect name for the eyes longing for love

RE: The King and the Clown (movie)
i can see why there was so much hype and talk about this movie. while it was an interesting portrayal of the traveling troupes during that time in history, it ended so abruptly. it seems incomplete almost.
