"EPISODE" 1
It was in the theatre department of Seoul National University where the best of friends sat, listening to an important lecture. The intelligent and beautiful Oh Ji-hae, her kind and cheerful best mate Kim Hee-jin and Lee Gyun-woo, the caring and empathetic male friend were always together. After the lecture finished, Gyun-woo asked “Should we go for a meal? Ji-hae! Chinese is your favourite, no?”
“Of course! You know my favourite food now?”
“What’s mine, Gyun-woo?” asked Hee-jin.
“Uh, kimchi?”
“No! I like sashimi! Why don’t you know the food I like to eat?” asked Hee-jin.
“You eat kimchi everday, no? So I’m not entirely wrong!” teased Gyun-woo. Hee-jin, with her kind and friendly personality laughed.
“Ok! Let’s go! Oh, but can we quickly stop at the library?” asked Ji-hae.
“Sure! Whatever you want!” said Gyun-woo.
“But why are you always going to the library? You are already the top in our class” said Hee-jin. “You almost live in the library! You already have so many books!”
“I just need one more for extra reading.”
They went to the main library, where Ji-hae borrowed two books. However, these two books joined large pile which she was already carrying. Along with the few in her bag, she carried three in her arms.
“Are you fine carrying all those books?” asked Gyun-woo as they were walking out of the library door. Ji-hae turned to respond to him, until she suddenly bumped into another person. Her books fell to the floor. So did his.
“Oh no! I’m sorry!” apologised Ji-hae. She bowed quickly before bending down to help pick up the books.
“Hmm, don’t worry.” said the other person, before leaving quickly. He said nothing else.
“Who was that? He seems so shy – he didn’t say anything” said Ji-hae.
“I know! It was like he was embarrassed to knock your books over!” said Gyun-woo.
“But I knocked his out of his hands too!”
“Don’t worry! It’s not an important matter, right Gyun-woo?” said Hee-jin.
“Yes, Hee-jin is right. So don’t give it any more thought! Understand Ji-hae” said Gyun-woo.
“Ok!”
They made their way to the Chinese restaurant. They ordered their food and sat at the table.
“Ah! I can finally read the book!” said Ji-hae.
“No!!! You can’t! We are supposed to be relaxing, not studying!” protested Hee-jin.
“Fine! I’ll just have a quick look…” said Ji-hae. Suddenly, she gasped. “Oh no! I have the wrong book! This is the same one, but it’s not the library’s copy. It has someone’s name on it…Park Sang-min…”
“You must have taken the wrong book when you dropped it! That guy’s name must have been Park Sang-min! Do you want me to return it for you?” offered Gyun-woo.
“Do you know him?”
“No…not really…”
“So how can you return it to him?”
“I don’t know, I just wanted to help” replied a shy Gyun-woo.
“Wow! So kind today! How come your never this nice to me?” asked Hee-jin.
“I am! I’m always nice to you as well…” replied Gyun-woo. Hee-jin said nothing, looking very unconvinced and slightly hurt.
“So how can we find him?” asked Hee-jin, breaking a short silence.
“Park Sang-min, must be many of them here! We’ll never find him!” replied Ji-hae.
The topic of the book’s owner was dropped, and the meal was consumed. Suddenly, Ji-hae realised she had a class on and rushed to the lecture. She sat in her usual seat – everyone in the lecture had their usual seat.
“I really should change mine” thought Ji-hae. “That tall person always sits in front. He is ALWAYS there! It makes it so hard to see. Why can’t he sit somewhere else?” Ji-hae’s mind wandered and came back to the owner of the book. “Who is Park Sang-min” she wondered. She tapped her pen on the seat’s armrest, trying to think.
“Ano…could you please tap a bit quieter” whispered the tall person sitting in front of Ji-hae. He spoke with a timid voice. “I’m sorry but I’m trying to listen!” He turned around to face her. Ji-hae was shocked. The boy – the one who always sits in front of her, was Park Sang-min. He was the owner of the book.
