Risk Taking For Greater Self-Esteem

Most people might admit they would like to learn to take bigger risks, or attain their goals and satisfy their needs. Risk-taking behavior is one way to "stretch" yourself to achieve personal growth such as developing more self-esteem.

Risk taking has been defined as behavior you would not usually engage in a particular behavior in at this time in your life. You typically have not done a certain thing or engaged in a particular behavior you see as posing a possibly threat to you. It may not appear to be a real threat to some other people, but you surely do fear it. Usually, what seems to be a risk for you is new behavior or skills you have not yet learned.

Risk taking, then, involves a subjective sense of danger that one must learn to overcome. Creative risk taking can be learned. It can become an important way to increase your variety of possibly responses available to you. By owning to a larger repertoire of responses, you have more freedom of choice. You will not be restricted by fears or inhibitions. Your self-esteem will grow.
