Addiction...
My friend has an addiction to marijuana, the scary thing is his father is also addicted. How can I get him to stop smoking, he's a very offensive guy and I'm afraid he's gonna stop being my friend over this.

RE: Addiction...
Well if you can't stop them then it's their choice if they want to or not.

RE: Addiction...
A True Friend is someone who can tell someone things that other people wouldn't say to them ie which is usually the truth rather than same some lie. At the same token the person recieving this advice considers you a True Friend they will value your opinion and hear out what needs to be said to help face reality. In the end you only want them to be in a better place. ciao

RE: Addiction...
fact: marijuana is not addictive

seems like your friend got into the habbit of smoking up weed but he's not physically addicted to it. he probably likes the high that's why he does it. and since he's not physically addicted to it, he has a higher chance of quitting it than cigarettes. so yeah, dont feel afraid to say whats on your mind and help your friend out

RE: Addiction...
It's really hard for young people to quit doing drugs when their parents or one of their parents do drugs as well. Then, they wouldn't have parental support to protect them from doing drugs.

RE: Addiction...
beating him up and telling him seriously how bad his life is going to be if he doesn't quit. it worked for one of my other friends. how is his relationship between the dad? if its bad then thats a plus because you can always say he will turn out like his dad. anyways heres some facts.

"Marijuana is the most commonly abused illicit drug in the United States."

" Long-term marijuana abuse can lead to addiction for some people; that is, they abuse the drug compulsively even though it interferes with family, school, work, and recreational activities. Drug craving and withdrawal symptoms can make it hard for long-term marijuana smokers to stop abusing the drug. People trying to quit report irritability, sleeplessness, and anxiety. They also display increased aggression on psychological tests, peaking approximately one week after the last use of the drug."

both are quoted from http://www.nida.nih.gov/Infofacts/marijuana.html

there you can also find a section that tells about what to do if someone you know is addicted/abuses drugs

Tsk, tsk brother...always trying to approach a situation in the most violent way possible.

Anyhow, it's possible to be addicted to anything simultaneously, meaning mentally, physically, and emotionally. In this case, that much is obvious. I am very truly sorry to hear you are dealing with this. I still believe that you should settle down and talk with him, one on one. Even if he refuses to listen to you, at least you had the opportunity to say what you wanted. Maybe you might make a difference to him, who knows; that is the more favorable outcome. But if you say he's already head high in his addiction, it's probably gonna be a lot harder. Don't sit back and watch him sink into oblivion though. You still hold a lot of power as a friend, so do anything you can in your power to help him. Disregard the fear that you will lose him as a friend. If he refuses to listen, you've already lost him there, but at least you hung onto him. It's better than just letting him go.
