RE: Learning a Foreign Asian Language is Hard
Loved your Post it was a really good 1.

I think you r so right. im myself from Europe. I speak English and my home countrys language.

I learn Cantonese from my friends. Now i can speak cantonese and manage myself pretty good in like HK. But i wanted to learn how to read and write as well.... But that turns out to be a differant story...^^

Cantonese anit like Mandarin, in Mandarin you speak the same way as you write... not like that with cantonese... You speak one word but you write a differant one. Big Grin

And here is one more think 4 you all ppl that wanna learn chinese for example, the reason its so hard to learn is basically, they dont use words like latin language do. Like time verbs.

Example in chinese: Zuotian women bu mang.
Yesterday Yesteraday we (were) not buzy.

And there isnt a single word for " The ".

And to rap this all up, Chinese is a really fun language to learn.
If you learn it you will never regret it believe me. Big GrinBig GrinBig GrinBig GrinBig GrinBig Grin...

Any language is good to learn to more you know the better it is

RE: Learning a Foreign Asian Language is Hard
I don't really agree that French, Italian, and Spanish are much easier to learn than Japanese and Korean...since one of my closed friends told me that it is very difficult to learn Russian and German, because of the prounications...however, it's very easy to learn how to speak Japanese and Korean, since the pronouciation is not that difficult...to tell you the truth, I started to learn French when I was in high school and I switched to learn Japanese after I went to university...and believe it or not, I get very good grades on both languages...however, I am not that keen on languages~~~

Yeah if you havent got any background knowledge at all about a certain language then it is hard to actually pick it up like your mother language.

i definitely agree that learning a foreign language especially asian is really difficult only perseverance and determination to learn are some of the many tools to learn from it.

RE: Learning a Foreign Asian Language is Hard
Yeah, it does seem that asian languages are harder for westerners to learn, especially because they are not use to havign to memories characters for every words. They are use to memorizing tehs ounds so they can sound out words.

But, I don't really find it hard to learn a lanagugae if I push myself. For me both western and asian languages I can pick up the basics quickly. I just tend to forget because I'm not forced to use it in everday life. Maybe it is cause i grew up having to speak both English and Vietnamese and I always hear and can understand some Canto.
