RE: ANTIVIRUS?
if you want free, i'd say Avast or Rising (i find that AVG and Avira have too many false negatives, imo) and if i were you i'd pair up with Malwarebytes malware remover.. i tested it against Adaware and Spybot and it found everything, whereas Adaware and Spybot only found 5/7 of the infected files i had placed in a folder for the test.

RE: ANTIVIRUS?
I used to have McAffe but then it expired...
Now I have Norton 360 and I think it's better...
I had lots of Trojans and viruses...
but now my laptop is alright.

RE: ANTIVIRUS?
Go for NOD32 or Kaspersky. They have been the best in the market for a few years now.

Mcafee will do the job, but it slows down the computer.

RE: ANTIVIRUS?
The best way to counter any form of malware, trojans, and of viruses is by "hidieing while surfing" or using either CGI/PHP Proxy(s) since these stop them from even reaching your CPU ahead of time(Surfing via no proxy leaves numerous Open Ports vulnerable for any form of malware to enter).Just remeber to use CGI on sites that require actual logging in and PHP for ones that don't

I agree go with the Proxy since its both free and don't require downloading

Antivirus is the name given to programs that discovered and (where possible) removes viruses from messages. Through the removal of viruses in e-mail server and protection of all internal mail clients and protecting all customers from receiving viruses too.
