Questions

Questions are formed in Chinese by adding the syllable ma (吗) at the end of a statement or by inserting the negative form of a verb or modifier immediately after the verb or modifier. For example:

He is your friend. ta shi ni de pengyou.

Is he your friend? ta shi ni de pengyou ma?

Is he (or is he not) your friend? ta shi bu shi ni de pengyou?

More Examples:

Do you have a girlfriend? ni you mei you nvpengyou ma?
How are you? ni hao ma?
Does it hurt? neige teng ma?

Laugh, and the world laughs with you.
Weep, and you will weep alone.
