to add more i guess in filipino is "po" or "opo"..i guess there's no eng. translation for that.we use that for our elderly.

"Po" and "Opo" denotes respect when taking to other people especially to elders..Smile

I watch a lot of Korean movies and Oompa (big brother?) is over used. I think they overdo it. Maybe its just the movies I watch. But isn't there another saying they can use instead? Or their name at least? Is that too offensive?

Yeah, it's used a lot and it does mean big brother. It's "oppa", though. It's not offensive to use names, but using oppa is polite and has to do with the confusicist view. You know, that everyone looks out for each other, respects each other, has each others best interests in mind... like a family.

when speaking japanese with father or relatives or friends, I always say " Eh" " doomo" "un" "nande" "hai" etc...>_<
In Korean,(I live there) I always use " jinja, oppa, unni, neeeee, jeongmal, wue, mwoya, mollayo, yoboseyo, ka ja, kaji kayo! fighting" these words, I'm really overusing...>_<
In mandarin and cantonese, I tend to add "la or a" in the end of sentences>_< One day, I was taling to a cantonese friend in half english and cantonese, so it sounded like this: No way, la, Okay , la, don't do that la, lets go somewhere else la. oppa, you should call him la ( We spoke english, because we had an english friend with us)
So he asked: What language are you guys speaking??
So the most overused words: eh, doomo,un, nande, hai, jinja, oppa, unni, neeee, jeongmal, wue, mwoya, mollayo, yoboseyo, ka ja, kaji kayo, fighting, la and a...^^

I'm with you! I'm currently learning Korean, and even though I don't speak well yet, I find myself using those words a lot! Especially yoboseyo, jinja, neeeee, mollayo, ka ja, and fighting. I even use them mixed in with english! lol Smile

I've noticed people have said "yo" for Korean a couple of times. It's definitely used a lot, but it's actually a formal verb ending. Smile But that is definitely why you hear it a lot.

As for me, there is definitely a lot of "hwaiting" going on in Korean. But I love to say it, so I hope I keep hearing it! lol

haha, actually 'oppa' is the term females use to refer to older males... it means older brother...
in most asian cultures its considered polite and proper to address elders in honorary titles; its kinda like calling your father 'dad' instead of his name. for asians, it extends to brothers and sisters, calling them 'brother' or 'sister' instead of by name.
in some cultures, such as korean, it applies to non family members as well, which explains why you hear the girls calling the guys oppa all the time...

as a chinese speaker, i have to admit i use a lot of 'lo', 'la', 'mah', 'leh'. it doesnt matter which dialect, they just seem to come to my lips naturally at the end of a sentence...

RE: Overused words in Asian languages

In most languages it's the same ones.
Hungry / Dieing of hunger
Hot / Dieing of heat
Cold / Freezing to death

Those types seem popular in every language.

Oh, and for Korean...
Idiot, and "Do you want to die"

RE: Overused words in Asian languages

hehh, after living together with a bunch of koreans for a few years, it has to "AAAHHH CHUNNA SHI****!!!" for korean.

malaysians love adding "lah" at the end of every sentence. singaporeans are also no exception.

i can't really pick one specific one for japanese because they speak a variety of accents from different prefectures.

punjabi people like to add "ji" at the end of sentences when speaking to older people as a sign of respect, so that gets used a lot as well.
