Eunhye’s bedroom
Eunhye(singing): Happy birthday to me..happy birthday to me...happy birthday, happy birthday...happy birthday to meeeeeeeeeee...thank you for this beautiful beautiful day God.

Outside Eunhye’s room
Mum: Eunhye...breakfast is ready sweetheart. Come down now coz u don’t want to be late for school.
Eunhye: Coming mom!

Kitchen
Eunhye: la la la la la
Mum (with a smile on her face): Aren’t we cheerful this morning?
Eunhye (smiling back): Mum? What’s today?
Mum: It’s Friday, why do you ask?
Eunhye(no longer smiling): Anything you want to say to me?
Mum: You look pretty and I love you.
Eunhye: Okay mum. Don’t worry. It’s nothing important. I gotta scram.
Mum: Aren’t u gonna eat?
Eunhye: Nope! Bye!

Eunhye gives her mom a quick kiss and walks out of the house but she doesn’t know that Mom is only pretending. Of course her mother knows that it’s her birthday today. What kind of a mother who forgets her own child’s birthday?

Mum: Hmmmm Happy Birthday darling..I’ll give you your present when you get home tonight.

Outside the house
Eunhye(with her face all scrunched up) : My own mother forgot her only daughter’s birthday? Unbelievable!

Beeep beep beep....

Kang Hyun: Get in the car Eunhye! We’ll be late for school!

Eunhye quickly gets in the car and Kang Hyun drives off.

Kang Hyun: Why is your face like that? You look ugly! Cheer up, will yah? It’s your birthday today.
Eunhye: My own mother forgot that it’s my birthday.
Kang Hyun: Don’t worry about your mum. She’s getting too old that’s why.
Eunhye (giggles): She’s not that old.

Eunhye’s cellphone starts ringing. She takes it out of her bag and gives a squeal.

Eunhye. Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Kanghyun: Don’t just squeal there. Answer it!
Eunhye (clears her throat): He hello...

Lee Dong Wook: Hello Eunhye! How’s my baby girl?.....Hello? Eunhye, are you there?
Eunhye: Huh? Oppa! Yes, yes I’m here.
Dong Wook(chuckling): I thought you’ve forgotten about me. Are you free tonight?
Eunhye: Anytime! I am always free for you. I mean, Yes, I’m free tonight. Why? You have something important to tell me?
Dong Wook (with an excited voice): Yes, I have something very important to tell you. I can’t wait to see you. 7pm at Shake’s. Ok?
Eunhye: Ok.. bye....

Flashback

5 year old Eunhye crying
A 12 year old Dong Wook comes up to her

Dong Wook: Are you ok? Why are you crying?
Eunhye: Ji Hoon took my doll. I chased him and I tripped and hurt my knees. Look, it’s bleeding.
Dong Wook: It‘s ok now. Don‘t cry anymore. I’m right here.
Eunhye: You know what? I don’t like Ji Hoon. He’s a bad boy. I like you because you’re nice to me. Oh and I love you too.
Dong Wook (smiling): You love me? Really? Promise?
Eunhye: I love you. Really. I promise.
Dong Wook: All right then. When you turn 18, I will marry you.
Eunhye: 18? Marry? What’s that?
Dong Wook(laughing): It means I will love only you and no other.
Eunhye: Really? Promise?
Dongwook: Promise and cross my heart. Come on let’s go inside so we can take care of your knee.
Eunhye: I want piggyback!
Dongwook: Then piggyback it is.

Present time

Kang Hyun: Whaaat? You still remember that? How old were you? 5 years old and you still remember? This is so unbelievable. And what makes you think that he’s going to marry you?

Eunhye(takes KH‘s hands): I can feel it. Tonight is the night. He’ll propose to me and I’m going to say yes!

(Eunhye’s dream sequence)
Shake’s restaurant...
Eunhye sitting in a chair while Dong Wook is on his knees with a ring, violin music in the background and all.
Dong Wook: Miss Yoon Eun Hye. I love you with all my heart. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Be my wife. Marry me.

Eunhye: Yes! Oh yes! I will marry you!
Kanghyun: Ya, Yoon Eun Hye! You’re embarrassing me. People are looking. Stop it.
Eunhye: hehe I’m sorry. I just got carried away.
Kanghyun: Are you certain that he’s going to propose to you tonight? I don’t want you to get your hopes up. But you did say he’s handsome.
Eunhye: He’s the most handsome guy in the whole wide world.
Kanghyun: I beg to disagree. JiHoon is the best looking guy ever. Yes, he’s a bad boy but a very cute bad boy.
Eunhye: hahaha Are you kidding me? You listen to me Kanghyun, stay very far away from that guy. It’s for your own good. Trust me. He’s just going to make you cry.
Kanghyun: You don’t like him at all do you?
Eunhye: I loathe him!
Kanghyun: Good. Then I can have him to myself. Oh, we better get going if you want to look good for your prince charming. Like you said, he’s proposing so you need to look absolutely beautiful. We need to do something with your eyes too.
Eunhye(eyes going big): What’s wrong with my eyes.
Kanghyun: They’re just a bit too big. But they’re pretty.
Eunhye: Promise?
Kanghyun: Promise. Let’s go!
Eunhye: Wait! What about school?
Kanghyun(lifting a brow): School or Dong Wook oppa?
Eunhye(getting up): I’ve waited for this day all my life. I choose Dong Wook oppa! Let’s go shopping.

Shake’s Restaurant
7pm

Outside

Eunhye: I’m very nervous. I think I’m going to faint.
Kanghyun: Okay. Faint and you won’t see your oppa.
Eunhye: Am fine! Am not nervous at all. hehehe
Kanghyun: If you really want to faint. Faint infront of Dong Wook so he can catch you. Wouldn’t that be more romantic?
Eunhye: Heeeeeeeeeee Yes! Okay! I can do this! Breathe in breathe out...Okay, wish me luck.
Kanghyun: Go get him!

Inside the restaurant

Eunhye: breathe in, breathe out....I can do this...OMG! I cannot do this!

Waiter: May I help you maam?
Eunhye: Ah yes! I think a Mr. Lee Dong Wook has made reservations here.
Waiter: Ah yes maam, he’s here. I’ll take you to him.

Eunhye(yells): I do!

Back to reality

Waiter: Maam? Did you say something?
Eunhye (embarrassed): Ahmm, did I say something? No I didn’t say anything. Did you say something?
Then her world stops and her vision focuses on only one man. And all she can hear is the loud beating of her heart...Boom, boom, boom, boom.....Her Prince Charming. Her love of her life. Her Lee Dong Wook oppa is standing just a few feet away from her, smiling....(Unchained Melody comes in) Ooohh oh oh oh ohh my looooove...my daaarling....I’ve huuungered for your looooooove... a loooong lonely time....And tiiiiiiiiime goes byyyyy....

Dong Wook: Eunhye! Over here!
Eunhye(shakes her head): hehehe Hi... Sorry am late.
Dong Wook: Look at my baby. She’s all grown up.
“Aherm,” - someone clears their throat
Dong Wook: Sit down Eunhye. I would like you to meet someone.
Eunhye sits down
Dong Wook: Eunhye, I would like you to meet Song Hye Kyo.
Hye Kyo (with a warm smile): Hello Eunhye. It’s nice to finally meet you. I’ve heard so much about you.
Eunhye(smiling back and a little shy): Hello. Nice to meet you too.
Dongwook: What’s this? My Eunhye is not shy. She’s...

Dongwook: (looks up): Little brother! You’re late, as always.
Joo Jihoon: Sorry big brother. Traffic.
Dongwook (lifting an eyebrow): Somehow, I don’t believe you.
Hyekyo: Don’t be like that to your brother. Have a seat Jihoon

Jihoon takes the seat next to Eunhye.
Eunhye(in hushed tone): What are you doing here?!
Jihoon(grins): Am I that irresistible?
Eunhye: Ha? In your dreams!
Dongwook: Guys! I have something really important to tell you. I want for you two to be the ones to hear it first.
Dongwook takes Hyekyo’s hand, gives her a sweet smile and says: “Guys, Hyekyo and I are getting married.....”

Silence....

(Eunhye’s dream sequence)

Dongwook and Hyekyo inside the church
Priest: I now pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss the bride.
Eunhye: Waaaaaaaaaaaaahhh huhuhuhuhuhu nooooooooooo!(She’s wearing a black dress and a black veil)

Back to present

Jihoon: Wow bro! That’s great news. Congratulations. You’re one lucky guy. I wish I was that lucky! Hyekyo, if he cheats on you, dump him right away and run to me. I’m just here, ok? (then he winks at Hyekyol)
Dongwook: You crazy.
Hyekyo(smiling): Don’t worry Jihoon. I’ll keep that in mind.
Dongwook: Eunhye? Are you alright? You’re quiet.
Eunhye(forcing a smile): Ahhhh..co..cong..congrats..Excuse me..I need to go to the toilet.
Dongwook: Come right back, ok?

But instead of going to the toilet, Eunhye makes her way out of the restaurant. Once she’s outside she breaks into tears. But she quickly wipes her tears away. She looks to her left and then to her right and back to her left and off she runs.

A minute later...Jihoon is outside the restaurant

Jihoon: Excuse me sir. Did you see a girl? She’s about 5’6 and she’s pretty. Round face, big eyes.
Guy: Wearing a pink gown?
Jihoon: Yes, that’s her.
Guy: She went that way.
Jihoon: Thank you.

Jihoon runs to his motorbike, gets on it, puts his helmet on and drives off as if the devil himself is chasing him.

Meanwhile
On a not so high bridge along the highway. Eunhye has her shoes in one hand while her other hand is holding on to a pole.

Eunhye(crying): You told me you love me.....just me and no other.... huhuhu... You said you’re going to marry me when I turn 18. I turned 18 today. huhuhu

Then she hears a motorbike approaching. She turns her head to look. She sees the headlight first and then a guy getting off, taking his helmet off and running towards her.

Jihoon(shouting): What the heck do you think you’re doing?!

Eunhye(shouting back): Don’t come near me! I will jump!

Jihoon: What? Are you out of your mind?!

Eunhye(laughing hysterically): Ya! Are you calling me a lunatic?

Jihoon(getting really pissed): Then what do you call at what you‘re doing? Only crazy people would do what you’re contemplating to do now. And what about your mom? You’re just going to leave her like that?

Eunhye(in a sad voice): Just tell my mother I love her very much and I’m sorry. Tell your brother also that I love him so very much and I will love him even after death.

Jihoon(looking worried sick now): Eunhye, please....Don’t do this.

Eunhye(gives Jihoon this serious look): And you. I will not leave you alone. I will visit you every night and scare you until you can’t take it anymore. I will have my revenge then. Ha-ha-ha-ha

Jihoon(taking a deep breath): They’re not even married yet.

Eunhye: What? What did you say?

Jihoon: I said, they’re not married yet. If you love my brother that much then you will not give him up so easily. Fight for him.

(After saying this Jihoon turns right around and he has this OUCH look on his face and he grabs his chest as if he’s having a heart attack)

Eunhye(her face lights up): You’re right! There’s hope. I’m going to take my Dongwook back. Yes!

Because she’s so excited, she jumps up and throws her shoes up in the air and almost slips.

Jihoon(runs to her): Be careful!

Eunhye: I’m fine! hahaha Thank you Jihoon. I thought....

Jihoon: You thought I was born only to make your every waking hour a torture?

Eunhye(her face breaks into a grin): Well, you can’t really blame me if I think that way. You’ve been torturing since we were kids.

Jihoon(sighs): Ok, fine. Come on. I’ll take you home.

Eunhye’s residence

Outside
Eunhye gets off the bike, takes the helmet off and hands it back to Jihoon.
Eunhye: Thank you.
She then starts to walk off but Jihoon stops her.

Jihoon: Wait..
He takes a small box out of his jacket.
Jihhon: Hold out your hand.

Eunhye(pouts): why?

Instead of answering her, Jihoon takes her hand and he deposits the small box in her open palm.

Jihoon(in a very serious voice): Happy 18th Birthday Eunhye.

The he puts the helmet on and drives off....While Eunhye stands frozen and staring at the small box in her hand...Confusion is evident on her face.

Jihoon is back on the same bridge. He’s laughing like a loon.

Jihoon: Of all the girls out there why do I have to fall in love with her (clutching at his chest) It hurts so bad. Maybe I should just jump off this bridge and be done with it. (laughs) Can I really walk away and just forget all about her? That’s like telling myself to stop breathing. What do I do?
(he yells) Ya, Yoon Eunhye! Why is loving you causing me too much pain?!

ChApTeR 2

Eunhye’s Residence

Eunhye: Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! You’re the best mother in the world! Thank you! Can I go test drive it. Please....
Mum(smiling): You be careful. I know you’re 18 and can legally drive but you’re still my baby girl so please be careful. Ok?
Eunhye: Mom, don’t worry. I’ll drive carefully. Promise.

Eunhye gives her mom a loud kiss on the cheek and mom goes back inside the house. Bubbling over with excitement Eunhye gets into her own car. She feels great today when only last night she thought the world has come crumbling down on her.
She starts to pull out of the garage and because she’s such in high spirits she neglects to check the road and almost gets a heart attack when her brand new car almost collides with a motorbike. She hits the break hard. She and her car are safe. But the motorbike and the person on it are not. She quickly gets out of the car and runs to check the casualties.

Eunhye: OMG! Are you okay?
Guy: If you really want to kill yourself then I’m not going to stop you. But you need not include innocent people!
Eunhye: Jihoon?! Is that really you?
She then tries to help him up but he knocks her hand away.
Eunhye: Humph! I’m just trying to help you get up you know. No need to get all fired up.

Then she starts to walk back to her car.

Jihoon(picks himself up, follows her and yells): What?! You almost got me killed. And you’re standing there looking like a cool cucumber and telling me not to get all fired up. I should just strangle you.
Eunhye(one hand quickly goes to her neck while the other hand makes a peace sign): hehehe. Peace. I’m sorry, truly.
Jihoon: Sorry, sorry! Your sorry can’t do anything. You’re one lousy driver, you know that?
Eunhye(taking a deep breath): Stop right there! For your information. I am not a lousy driver. I can drive just fine. In fact, I think I’m a better driver than you are. You’re the lousy driver. You see the road? It’s so wide and big and yet you still managed to crash into other people‘s car. And you only have a small bicycle.

Jihoon (closing his eyes and taking a deep breath himself): It’s called a motorbike. And yeah, I see the road. There’s nothing wrong with my eyesight. And I didn’t crash into your stupid pink car. I swerved to avoid collision because you weren’t looking where you were going and that was my mistake. Big mistake! I should have just crashed my bike into your car so at least we’re even!

Jihoon gives a disgusted look at Eunhye’s car.

Jihoon: Not even a scratch.

Then he lifts his foot up as if to kick it. And Eunhye quickly spreads her arms and legs infront of her car.

Eunhye: Stop! It’s a brand new car. My mom gave it to me as a birthday present. She’ll be devastated if the car gets so much a scratch.

Jihoon: You’re unbelievable, you know that?

Eunhye: Don’t worry. I’ll take care of your bike. Just leave my car alone.

Jihoon(barking out a short laugh): You’ll take care of my bike?

Eunhye: Yes. I am going to take it to the auto repair shop and get it fixed. I will pay for the damages and everything.

Jihoon: Is that so? Well, let me tell you something. That bike is very expensive and my brother gave it to me as a birthday present. What will he think when he finds out that it’s been damaged because of your reckless driving. He’d be so devastated.
And besides, I won’t let you get off so easily.

Eunhye(heaving a frustrated sigh): What do you want me to do? And why are we having this super long conversation out here. This is so unbelievable!

>Jihoon’s dream sequence

Jihoon takes Eunhye’s face and kisses her passionately...1 second..2 seconds...3 seconds...4 seconds....5 seconds...6 seconds..7...8....9...

Eunhye(yells): Joo Ji Hoon!
Jihoon: What?!
Eunhye: I said, what do you reckon I should do?
Jihoon(with a devilish grin): Hmmmm...Well, Let me think...Aha! Ok , while my bike is at the repair shop I’m going to be using your car as my transport to and from school, work and so on.

Eunhye: Huwaaat?! No! This is my car.
Jihoon(scratches his chin): Ok, I’ll just go talk to your mom.
Eunhye(grabbing Jihoon’s arm): Wait! Stop! Let’s talk about this like two sensible and mature grown-ups.
Jihoon(looking so cocky now): Well, you’re not really going to lose your car. You’re just gonna have to give me lifts. You know, when I need to go somewhere we’ll just use your car and you will drive me anywhere I want and wish to go! Got it?!
Eunhye(looking aghast):You mean...like a service car and I’m your driver?
Jihoon: No? Ok, I better go see your mom.
Eunhye: Allright! You win! I hate you!
Jihoon (turns around and whispers to himself): I know....but I love you.

Auto Repair Shop

Jihoon walks up to where Eunhye’s car is parked.
Eunhye(looking so grim): So, what did they say? When can you get your bike back?
Jihoon: They couldn’t tell. They said it might take a few days, a week or even a month before they can fix it.
Eunhye: What?! OMG! What have I done?

Jihoon smiles to himself, opens the driver’s seat door and orders Eunhye to get out.
Eunhye(hugs the steering wheel): Can I just drive instead?
Jihoon: Out!
Eunhye quickly obeys. She then runs to the other side of the car, opens the door and climbs in.

“Where?”
They both start to say.
They both look away.
“Dongwook”
They both say
Eunhye tries to hide a smile. While Jihoon has this sour look on his face.

Dongwook’s Apartment

Hallway

Eunhye(walking and smiling to herself): Okay, time to get to work.
While Jihoon is close behind. That sour look still on his face.
Eunhye stops at the door and knocks on it. Jihoon stops right next to her, then he turns to her. He starts to bring his hands up and he looks as if he’s going to strangle Eunhye. But the door opens...
When the door opens so does Eunhye’s mouth. Dongwook only has a towel wrapped around his hip. His hair is yet to dry.
Jihoon snorts and leans forward.
Jihoon: Ya! Yoon Eun Hye! Close your mouth. A fly might get in.
Eunhye casts him an irritated look
Dongwook(chuckling): Guys! What are you doing here? Eunhye? Are you feeling much better now? How’s your stomach?
Eunhye(turns to Jihoon and gives him a puzzled look): My stomach?
Dongwook: Well, according to Jihoon you had diarrhoea last night that’s why you left without saying goodbye.
Jihoon tries to contain his laughter but to no avail. He ends up laughing like a loon, even clutching his stomach.
Eunhye can only give Jihoon a just-you-wait-and-see look.
She then turns to Dongwook and gives him her sweetest smile.
Eunhye: Have you had breakfast yet? You want me to prepare breakfast for you?

She gives Jihoon one last deadly glare and enters the room like a queen entering her own court.
Jihoon makes a face and follows her inside.

Dongwook: Actually Hyekyo is preparing breakfast now. She’s in the kitchen. You guys go in there. I’ll just go get dressed.

Jihoon(with a wicked grin): Hyekyo slept here last night? Don’t you have only one bed big brother?

>Eunhye’s dream sequence

Dongwook’s bedroom
Dongwook carrying Hyekyo, ala Rhett Butler-Scarlett O’ Hara Gone with the Wind style. Dongwook drops Hyekyo on the mattress and quickly follows her down...both are giggling...

>Back to reality

Eunhye shaking her head furiously and slapping her face.
Dongwook(turns to Jihoon): You and your dirty imagination. (then he walks off whistling)
Eunhye: Your brother is a perfect gentleman. You’re not. You are an....
Jihoon ignores her and he makes his way into the kitchen.
Jihoon(in a cheery voice): Good morning Hyekyo!
Knowing that Eunhye is right behind him, he raises his voice some more.
Jihoon: Did you get some sleep last night? My brother didn’t tire you very much, did he?
Hyekyo(smiling): Jihoon? Why are you shouting? I can hear you just fine.
Eunhye: Yes, why are you shouting? I’m sure Hyekyo is not deaf.
Jihoon(ignoring Eunhye): Hyekyo. Whatever you’re cooking there looks delicious. Smells nice too.
Knowing that Eunhye can’t cook, he keeps going..
Jihoon: You know my brother eats a lot so he needs a woman who cooks really well and knows her way around the kitchen. He can’t stand people who can’t even lift a finger to cook. You know the ones who just relies on their housemaids.


>Eunhye’s dream sequence

Dongwook(looking pissed): And you call this food?! Why does it taste like this?! I thought you said you can cook!
Eunhye(swallowing hard): Yes, of course I can cook.
Dongwook(shouting): NO! I don’t believe you! You can’t cook! Get out of my house! Get out of my life! Ouuuut!

>Back to reality

Eunhye biting her lip and giving Jihoon a dagger look.
Hyekyo: Really?
Jihoon: Really. That’s why you two are perfect for each other.
Hyekyo: You know, you have a way with words.
Eunhye: Oh yes, he has a way with words. He’s such a charming guy, isn’t he? Hyekyo, take a guess on how many women he’s charmed for this past week only. I can’t even begin to count. There’s so many of them. Yes, Ji Hoon is such the charmer. Oh, have a guess on how many girls have cried because of him just for this past month. You see, he’s....
She never gets to finish her sentence because Hyekyo cuts in.

Hyekyo: You know, you two look cute together.
Eunhye: Eeeeeeeewwwww
Jihoon: Ha ha ha. Hyekyo, she’s not my type at all. Her eyes are way too big!

Eunhye: Ha ha ha. Hyekyo! He’s not my type at all. He’s way too skinny!
Hyekyo: Ah, guys. Why don’t you sit down and we’ll start breakfast.
Eunhye smiles at Hyekyo while Jihoon turns around to clutch at his aching heart.
