"Jewel's Splendor" Costume Fitting; Actresses Wear $48 Million in Jewels
TVB's new 80 episode series, "Jewel's Splendor" 《珠光寶氣》 held its costume fitting yesterday. The series is produced by Chik Kei Yi and features the cast from "Dance of Passion" and centers around the story of 3 sisters in the diamond industry. The series will film in Qingdao, Shanghai, Beijing, Thailand, Britain, and South Africa.
The actresses wore $48.81 million (HKD) in jewels, totalling 423.5 carats. The three lead actresses Gigi Lai, Ada Choi, and Maggie Shiu play 3 sisters in the series. Their diamonds alone were worth $35.7 million (HKD). There was heightened security at the studio due to the invaluable jewelry.
Gigi was the most favored and sponsored with $13 million (HKD) in jewelry and wore a red Valentino evening dress. Ada and Maggie's black evening gowns were provided by TVB, thus making Gigi the spotlight at the event.
Gigi's Valentino dress was sponsored through TVB's arrangement and there is only one dress available in Hong Kong. Noticing the low sexy cut, she was surprised and the little fabric [for the frontal design] is pushing the limits.
Reporters commented that her image seems to stand out from the other actresses. Gigi commented that everyone looks beautiful as well. She is happy that "Jewel's Splendor has a lot of sponsors and purses valued over $10k will also be provided, thus Gigi does not have to pull out her personal collection for the filming. Would Gigi's role in "Jewel's Splendor" pave the way for her to compete in the Best Actress Award? Gigi said the most important thing is to enjoy the filming process.
Ada Choi was sponsored with $11.2 million (HKD) in jewelry. The most outstanding was a 9 carat diamond ring valued at $6 million (HKD). Ada also wore 5 carats in diamond earrings. Reporters asked why she was not sponsored with an evening gown? Ada said the dress was arranged by TVB and was quite beautiful. The press conference's main focus was to showcase the splendor of the jewelry.
In the series, Ada is a queen at ball events and enjoys flaunting herself. Her character will be first married to Cheung Chi Kwong and then Ngok Wah. Wong He will also have a crush on her.
Is Ada's real-life target to marry a rich man? Ada's believes that love should be based on honesty and even rich people have true love relationships. The most important criteria is that the man has family values and has goals in life. In "Jewel's Splendor," Ada believes her older-man, younger woman relationship with Ngok Wah is believable. Love is not bounded by age nor class.
Maggie Shiu wore $11.5 million (HKD) in jewelry. Filming with such invaluable jewelry produces a certain level of anxiety, but TVB will provide added security measures. In the series, Maggie's character needs to look beautiful and cool at the same time. Executive manager, Catherine Tsang has advised that Maggie needs to increase her beauty skin regimen.
Earlier there were rumors that Bowie Lam and Wong He did not get along with each other. Both actors are once again collaborating on "Jewel's Splendor" and greeted each other at the costume fitting yesterday. During the meeting, they helped each other get copies of the script.
After the press conference, Wong He left immediately, causing Bowie to regret that they can not demonstrate through action that there is no rife between the two actors.
Reporters found Wong He in the make-up studio afterwards. Reporters asked whether Wong He feels awkward running into Bowie again? "No, we greeted each other during the meeting. Later, we will be going to China to film scenes for a sailboat competition."
Reporters confronted Moses Chan regarding the "fixed" results of girlfriend Bernice Liu winning the Newcomer Award at Jade Solid Gold Awards.
