limewire were using a peer to peer connection to download or upload something. So the speed of download is depend on others upload. Thats why if you download from torrent you were ask not to clean them instantly becouse its slows the others download

Limewire is pretty much hit or miss, the problem is you never really know what your going to get so it's definitely not the safest way to download media. If your going to use them anyway make sure you have all your Virus Protection is up to date.
