LEEHOM WANG TO REPLACE JERRY YAN AND JAY CHOU AS PEPSI'S NEW ENDORSER
According to the newest article from a magazine, Pepsi might replace 言承旭 (Jerry Yan) and 周杰倫 (Jay Chou) with 王力宏 (Leehom Wang) as their new endorser.
After the embarassing incident that happened at the Golden Melody Awards in 2005, Leehom's popularity has been highly increasing. Last year he has grabbed the "Best Male Vocalist" award at the Golden Melody Awards, and throned as Music King for the second time. Oscar winning director 李安 (Ang Lee) also gave Leehom a very important role as second male lead in the new film, 色戒 (Lust, Caution) that is due to release world-wide this October. According to a very new article in a magazine, Pepsi is attracted to Leehom's image and popularity and decides to use him to replace Jerry Yan and Jay Chou as one of Pepsi's more prominent endorsers.
According to sources, Pepsi's current endorsers are 蔡依林 (Jolin Tsai), Jay Chou, Jerry Yan, 陳冠希 (Edison Chen), 古天樂 (Louis Koo), 謝霆鋒 (Nicholas Tse), RAIN/BI, etc. Adding the salaries of the seven major stars, it exceeds $100,000,000 NT. Because of this the manufacturers are careful with their endorsers and are very strict with them. Lately there has been rumors saying that the manufacturers wanted to change endorsers, and they are Jerry Yan and Jay Chou.
According to a source, both Jerry Yan and Jay Chou are extremely hard to handle, mainly because of their picky requirements and unbearable attitudes. A crew member pointed that earlier on in 2002 when Pepsi found F4 to endorse their drink, their individual salaries were about $2,500,000 NT. But since over the years F4's popularity has slightly dropped, they only had the choice to renew their contract with only Jerry Yan. However Jerry requested that the salary was to raise up to $3,500,000 NT, giving the manufacturers a pain in the neck. Aside, Jerry Yan also constantly complained about the costumes and script and would always request for a staff meeting discussing about endorsement changes, which had annoyed the manufacturers much.
Jay Chou began endorsing for Pepsi since 2004. At first Jay Chou was expecting to be paired with 鄭秀文 (Sammi Cheng), but he became disappointed when he found out that he would actually be working with Louis Koo, Edison Chen, and 吳建豪 (Vanness Wu). During filming hours Jay would pull a long and annoyed face. The manufacturers were slightly displeased with his subtly impolite attitude, but because of Jay's current elite status in the entertainment industry, they decided to renew the contract with him anyways.
Over the last two years Leehom's popularity has increased in an alarming rate. Both his concerts in town and overseas has experienced exploding welcoming rates, breaking records. Adding on to being part of Ang Lee's new film, his status is pretty stable and strong. If Leehom was to endorse Pepsi, his salary will most definitely be higher than Jerry's, but will still be lower than Jay's. Pepsi's spokesperson, Fion, said that the contracts with Jerry and Jay are still going. When asked if Pepsi will add a new member to the endorsements, she said that it is not convenient to reveal at the moment.
