kanji is not language, its the type of wrighting, the same as hiragana and katakana, but if you want to read in japanese its impossible without learning kanji, because they use them to wright down different type of words - verbs, adjectives and adverbs etc. originaly kanji are taken from China.

Kanji really just helps differentiate the sentence. If you look at a wall of hiragana... your mind just blanks sometimes and it's really hard to tell the difference... well it was at first for me.

Also, it makes everything like 10x shorter, so instead of like a 10 page composistion, it's more like 4.
