If you read my Hiragana and Katakana lessons, you'll understand better the uses and differences in them. But in short, Kanji is used to make the Japanese Language a bit easier.

RE: Learn Kanji

The difference is that in japanese Kanji have two or more different readings. For example "Hi" is the kunyomi reading that means it's the reading given in japanese when it's alone 日、But for example in the word "mainichi" 毎日 which means "everyday" the reading given to "hi" is the Onyomi reading, this is the chinese reading and is given to kanji when they are combined, another easy example is "onna" 女 which means woman and when these two kanjis are combined 少女 "sukoshi" and "onna" the pronunciation changes to the Onyomi, "shou" for sukoshi and "jyo" for onna, making it sound like this "shoujo" 少女

RE: Learn Kanji

Yes Kanji is very difficult. Even my professor admits that she doesn't know as much as other people. This is because Kanji is like learning a whole new set of language like Chinese, since it is derived from it. Many Kanji is the same as it's Chinese equivalent, so if you know Chinese, you'll be able to understand Kanji mush better.

what do you mean by the "other japanese language" ??

kanji is used in *writing*

just like katakana and hiragana.

it's still japanese, though.

are you talking about the different dialects? like kansai-ben? tokyo-ben? stuff like that?
