japanese culture
i heard japanese people don't want speak english if not so important, even to foreigners when they're in japan, is it true? the reason why japanese people do that because they proud to their languange too much, is it true?

I find that while many Japanese do in fact speak some English, they are hesitant to use it. As Japan is the #2 economy in the world, I can appreciate why they would want to hold on to their language.

I am conflicted on this point though because it seems so many other strong countries have 'gotten over' this idea in order to become more global.
