There no difference between traditional and simplified Chinese. It just how you write it is the different...the pronunciation is the same.

RE: Index to Mandarin language lessons

what is the difference between mandarin, cantonese & fookien? does most chinese speak mandarin? how about people from hongkong? is mandarin their native tongue? what about taiwanese?

I can somehow differentiate the sound of mandarin from fookien but what really is the difference? is it like Filipino is to Mandarin and Ilocano is to Fookien?

and i forgot, also Cantonese.... who speak cantonese?

Thank you.

As for your questions, the difference between Mandarin and Cantonese is the dialect but the how you write it is the same. I'm not sure about fookien seeing I've never heard of that word before so can't help you answer that question. Most Chinese in China do speak some form of Mandarin and in some area speak Cantonese i.e. Hong Kong. Mandarin is the native language in China. Taiwanese is spoken in Taiwan which explains why it called "Taiwanese". Do you noticed the base word, "Taiwan"?
