um, I know kanji is imported chinese letters so I'm in the process of trying to learn kanji so that I can read japanese and well I just wondered if I do learn kanji does that mean I will be able to understand at least a bit chinese writing?>
like would a sign for bathroom in japanese have the same chinese symbols too?
I know that japanese has the other alphabets hiragana and katakana but still kanji in essence is chinese letters. I know the languages are different and all but the letters keep the same meaning...don't they?

from what I know, Kanji and Chinese letters are the same, so you will be able to read the Chinese letters but you probably won't be able to pronounce them in Chinese. You'll know the meaning of them though.

Yes u wud mostly, except there are a few differences in some stuff, u will b able to read most stuff

^-^ i'm learning japanese kanji and chinese =]... well from what i learn.. most of the words you learn in jap mean what they mean in chinese but not always since chinese joins a few words together to usualli create their meanings whereas for jap they sometimes have bits of kanji and bits of hiragana so it doesn't alwais have the same meaning.. and some chinese words have more than one meaning to it depending on the words that follow.. so yeh... but for the simple words like girl, boy, exit, entrance, autumn winter summer spring etc, they hav the same meaning... but you know how for mom and dad in japanese is chichi（父） and haha（母）... well their kanji also means mum and dad in chinese pronounced fu and mu.. but chinese has another symbol that they also use for mum（妈） and dad（爸） pronouced ma and ba... so yehh... thats just one example hehe =.= my japanese aint that good yet but yeh.

dont think soo cuz i dun think kanji uses allll da chinese letters and stuff.. cuz ders like thousands in the chinese language

If you learn Japanese, I think its make you easier to learn chinese, because there lok alike. But theres a big different in the pronouciation and the meaning.
