Gillian Cheung was all tears and full of remorse when she first spoke out about the sex photo scandal publicly during an exclusive interview with TVB host Stephan Chan in Hong Kong on Thursday night.
The actress disclosed she once thought of taking her own life after the scandal became known, which apparently derailed her promising career and threw her in an extreme state of shame for a whole year.
However, Gillian Cheung pulled herself back from the brink when she realized having thoughts of suicide would only leave troubles and grief for her family and friends to deal with. She says it's the support of family which helped her out of that 'lost' period.
Instead of venting her anger she remained calm during the interview, appearing to be at great peace with herself.
As much as she has endured, the actress says she harbours no ill feeling for her ex, Edison Chan, but can not figure out why he did not apologize to her in person after the scandal broke. That's also what Cecilia Cheung, another victim of the scandal, pointed out in a recent interview.
The actress also confessed she was deeply in love with Edison Chan and "didn't want to lose it". That answers why she took such intimate photos with him. However, Cheung bluntly says she does not want to see him again, adding "it is over".
The actress stressed dignity is the most important thing for her.
Charlene Choi, her partner of the Twins, also said in response to the scandal that she was quite happy to see Gillian now stand up to face herself and the public.
Here's the preview of the interview with English subbed by ltong88 of YT:
Narrator: Silly to love (Being silly and naive)
Stephan: Would this have been your longest relationship? (with Edison)
Gillian: Yes, the one I liked the most.
Stephan: Has Edison ever apologized to you?
Gillian: No...
Narrator: Naive
Stephan: Why did you agreed to take such close/intimate pictures?
Gillian: I really messed up. (I really did something wrong)
Stephan: Did you ever asked him the reason for taking the pictures?
Gillian: So he can look at them. (Personal uses only)
Narrator: The hardest to overcome again, thou you still have to overcome it (talking about the difficult answers)
Stephan: What if the audiences (fans) don't accept you?
Gillian: At the very least, they can give..."self-respect" back to me...
RE: Gillian Chung Speaks Out Regarding The Sex Photo Scandal
Whoa! They're getting interviews one after the other... which is a good thing so that their side of the story will be shown and that they can have a closure of some sorts...
Anyways, I like what she said about gaining self-respect and that comment about suicide and putting grief to family and friends if she commits one. With the recent news of another Korean celeb's suicide, reading Gillian's comment about suicide is refreshing... It really helps to have friends and family to lean on in times like this and I'm just happy that she didn't end her life just to escape from shame and the public eye...

i agree with you 4jpz. it's good that those who were involved in this matter are finally coming out to speak about it, so that the public can understand what really happened in this scandal. i'm sure gillian will get some self-respect back from her fans who are open to forgiving and not hold any ill feelings against her for what has happened between her and edison.
i can't believe that edison never really apologized to either of the girls in person after all this broke out. if he really cared about them, he would've apologized. i don't know if edison gave gillian an ultimatum of either posing provacatively for him or the relationship is over, but if he did, that was just wrong of him to do. it saddens me that gillian thought she had to do such a thing to stay in a relationship with him. but when you're in love with someone deeply, love can make a person do the craziest things.
as for her almost thinking of committing suicide because of what happened is just sad to hear. but i'm glad that she has such strong support from her family and friends and that she thought about how it would affect them if she did follow through with suicide. no matter what predicament a person is going through, suicide is never the answer to ending the problem. it may end it for them, but it just causes more heartache to those closest to them.
when something like this happens, they just need to stay away from the media until things cool down and stay away from reading and hearing about what people are saying about the predicament. i think gillian heard/read what people were saying about her, which made her even think about suicide. those who are bad mouthing and pushing gillian and other celebs everywhere caught in a scandal, just need to shut their trap. cuz it is those words from people that push the button which cause them to attempt suicide.
i'm hoping that gillian will be able to live her life as normal as possible, even though it might not be the same as it was before the scandal was unveiled. but best wishes to her in making a comeback in her career.

breaking her silence is maybe a big step for her to make for at least things are being cleared. like 4jpz, i also admire her despites of with the statement: " having thoughts of suicide would only leave troubles and grief for her family and friends to deal with'. glad she didn't do it. and still making her life moving on.
RE: Gillian Cheung Speaks Out Regarding The Sex Photo Scandal
i saw this...i felt bad for her. especially when she talked about death, it scared me, but thank god that suggestion quickly died down. Although many people may blame Edison for the scandal, i think most of the blame should be put on the people who leaked the photos. I mean, the girls and him who took the photos are people too, and just because they are idols don't make them perfect. People outside the entertainment industry do it too but its just that they dont get attention, even if they are exposed, they wont get as much. i am happy that gillian is able to speak out about it. cecilia also did the same. i hope they come back into the entertainment industry with hope to be back to where they were before the scandal.
