Genetic Engineering.
What do you think about genetic engineering?
Is it right or is it wrong?
For those that do not know what genetic engineering is, it is basically altering the human genotypes of an unborn person in order to manipulate its traits.
They can be used to treat illnesses. But we aren't talking about that. xD
I'm talking about changing your traits to change your intelligence, behaviour, character, and appearance.
So, post your opinions here and discuss. =O

RE: Genetic Engineering.
well, i think it's kinda okay to make them "better" but it wouldn't be the original that they're born with. If it's to treat illness that previous generations pass on to you, then i support it. But if it's to change other things, it kinda like fake....so i wouldn't say it's right or wrong, it's just how the situation is. BTW, i didn't heard about this before, when was this discovered? seems kinda like the cloning/robot thingy subject ^^

RE: Genetic Engineering.
Lol It has always been a controversial discussion, I might as well add it here.
I'm not sure exactly when was it discovered, but I think if scientists wanted to, they could.
In a minor scale anyway, I believe they just get the sperm or egg cell of a person then alter it.
Hahah, I guess it also relates to cloning, but apparently, cloning isn't precise..
Cool response though =D
Many people say it's not right. xD

RE: Genetic Engineering.
Its not that bad of an idea and technology to have genetic mutation on humans or any other animals because looking at how there are animals that are becoming extincts. Cloning can benefit a lot.
There is always going to be pros and cons about genetic mutation, but scientist have proven to be a good cause so far...
For example: If my dog suddenly dies, I would like to have a clone of it even though it the "real" him/her. It will make me feel more at ease that my dog is still here with me...
Hopefully what I wrote, everyone understands...lol

RE: Genetic Engineering.
lol I don't think they would be able to clone a dead creature though.
That's just my opinion anyway.
I believe its right, it may be beneficial to the world even.
In my opinion, the world as we see today is just at a horrible shape.
If we were to genetically modify a person to alter and increase their intelligence, then it would simply be superb.
Currently, the world has issues like global warming, epidemics, etc and etc.
Those genetically enhanced could probably solve it easily.
That's only my opinion anyway..
The only issues I can see would be more psychological/philosophical issues and a conflict between those that are genetically altered and those that aren't..
Due to financial/ethical issues, they will clearly have a conflict within each other.
If cloning were allowed, then the world would be in a worse shape due to psychological/philosophical issues..
But of course, that's all my opinion.
Oh, and Joanna. I understood what you said =)

I think it's a cool technology. I agree with you, Szelryuu.

RE: Genetic Engineering.
genetic engeneering, a bioethical dilemma...if its for therapeutic purposes them Im up for it.. but if its for other reasons like aesthetical purposes, NOPE..dont like it..

RE: Genetic Engineering.
Lol Yea, well..
The topic is basically talking about the modification of a person's appearance and intelligence. xD
Treating diseases in such manner is already accepted and such.
No point about discussing about that. =P
Might as well discuss about the ethical issue of modification, since it's supposedly like playing God or something of the sort.

RE: Genetic Engineering.
nope im not agree with that, it was like as if (much more like cloning minus intelligence and appearance) you already stole the real ability of the unborn person, it didnt even give a chance for the unborn ones so im AGAINST to it

RE: Genetic Engineering.
Well.. Not all genes are completely changed, that would take far more work.
Some remain intact.
So I guess the person would be enhanced and still have his one ability. (Although, it would probably have to be really damn good if it won't be engineered.)
