Former Philippines president, Maria Corazon Cojuangco Aquino, lovingly known as "Tita Cory," died of cardio-respiratory arrest after complications of colon cancer at the age of 76 on August 1, 2009, 3:18 a.m. Philippine time, at the Makati Medical Center.
She was world-renowned as the mother of Philippine democracy, peace, women's empowerment, and religious piety. She's the 11th president of the Philippines and the first ever woman President who served from 1986 to 1992 right after the Marcos regime.
Aquino was married to the late Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino, Jr. and they had five children namely current Philippine senator Benigno Simeon Aquino III, Maria Elena Aquino-Cruz, Aurora Corazon Aquino-Abellada, Victoria Eliza Aquino-Dee, and actress-tv host Kristina Bernadette "Kris" Aquino-Yap.

The wake is held at La Salle Greenhills gymnasium and people from all walks of life, from the common people to international dignitaries, can view the body from 7 a.m. up to 4 a.m. She reposed in simplicity with her trademark yellow dress and clutching a peach rosary.
The funeral will be held this Wednesday, August 5, 2009 and she will be buried at the Manila Memorial Park beside her late husband Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino, Jr.
