RE: Finding a Japanese Name

I got this link from the Learn Korean Thread: http://www.learnkoreanlanguage.com/need-install.html

But it should work anyways. Just replace Japanese instead of Korean when adding the languages. I have both Smile. If you have Vista, the directory should be the same, but probably a little bit trickier to find but Vista for sure should have it. I know in Windows XP you sometimes have to download it...

RE: Finding a Japanese Name

for the OP, I'd say キャサリン instead of カテリン
All the Jessica I've known, we called them ジェシカ without the "tittyai tsu" Jye-shi-ka
just my two cents.

for the IME on XP, it's usually on the install CD.
Go to the control panel | Regional and language option | Languages | Details then you can add Japanese.

RE: Finding a Japanese Name

San is used whenever you want to add more respect to a person's name, especially if you don't know the other person personally, you must always say it to be respectful.

Kun is used for boys and chan is used for girls as a way to call someone of younger or same age/generation in a cute and friendly way.

RE: Finding a Japanese Name

Well chan is typically used for girls, but chan is a more feminine of kun. So I guess if you were to use chan on a guy, it would be a more cuter way? I'm not sure about that.

RE: Finding a Japanese Name

what would Calvin be..? cuz in chinese translation to english it would start with the last name. but for western people who want to know their name i think it would start with their first name example Michael Jackson (Mai Go Jik Sun)

Your name domo-kun would be カルヴィン -- ka-ru-vi-n

...or maybe カルビン -- ka-ru-bi-n

RE: Finding a Japanese Name

your name would probably be トラストノワン or to-ra-su-to-no-wa-n

This is for sure wrong though. I'm a little rusty with translating the "tru" and "st" parts of the name. But I think the way I did it sounds right...
