How to Write in Past/Present/Future Form in Filipino

Thanks Guest for your input... You gave me an idea on what lessons to discuss here... or better yet, I'll pull off my mod powers and make a copy of your lesson, with your name written on it. I just wish you have a username and not just a generic unregistered "guest" name...

edit:
Done!!!

Note:
This guest wrote this language tutorials on another thread as a reply but since this is a good lesson to better understand Filipino words, a copy was made of the post and make it as a new thread. ~ 4jpz

Once again, thanks Guest

RE: Filipino Word Construction: Past/Present/Future Tenses

From Intermediate Tagalog by Teresita Ramos

PAST = PANGMAGDAAN (PN)
PRESENT = PANGKASALUKUYAN (PK)
FUTURE = PANGHINAHARAP (PH)

-in = a verbal suffix commonly used as an object focus marker. if the base ends in a vowel, -hin is suffixed to the root instead.

examples:
root: bisita (visit)
neutral (imperative, pautos=command): bisitahin (visit, to visit)
completed (past): binisita (visited)
incompleted (present): binibisita (visiting)
contemplated (future): bibisitahin (will visit)

note the absence of suffix -hin in the past and present forms of the verb and the shift in stress when the suffix is added

verbs that have -in forms
roon neutral completed incompleted contemplated
ayos ayusin inayos inaayos aayusin
basa basahin binasa binabasa babasahin
tahi tahiin tinahi tinatahi tatahiin
bili bilhin binili binibili bibilhin
