The following are the Filipino terms for directions. It could be used for asking and giving directions or just stating directions...

North - Hilaga
East - silangan
West - Kanluran
South - Timog
Northeast - Hilagang-Silangan
Northwest - Hilagang-Kanluran
Southeast - Timog-Silangan
Southwest - Timog-Kanluran
Middle East - Gitnang Silangan

Front - Harap
Back - Likod
Right - Kanan
Left - Kaliwa
Top - Itaas
Middle - Gitna

In front - Sa harap
Behind/At the back - Sa likuran or Sa likod
On the right - Sa kanan
On the left - Sa kaliwa
At the top - Sa itaas
On top - Sa ibabaw
At the bottom - Sa ilalim
Below - Sa ibaba
Inside - Sa loob
Outside - Sa labas
In between - Sa pagitan

Straight ahead - Deretso
Turn around - Liko or Umikot
Turn Left - Liko sa Kaliwa
Turn Right - Liko sa Kanan

Terms to describe distance:
Near - Malapit
Far - Malayo
Far apart - Malayo ang agwat

The following words signifies nearness or farness but doesn't give specific distance:

Yonder/Over there - Doon
Here/Over Here - Dito
There, on that side - Diyan po sa tabi (formal/respectful) or Diyan sa tabi (informal)
Here, on this side - Dito po sa tabi (formal/respectful) or Dito sa tabi (informal)
Over on that side - Sa banda po roon (formal/respectful) or Sa banda roon (informal)
Over on this side - Sa banda po rito (formal/respectful) or Sa banda rito (informal)

* Please take note that doon becomes roon or dito becomes rito. This change from |d| to |r| happens when a word starting in |d| is preceeded by a word ending in a vowel like "banda rito. Other words will be transformed this way like daw - raw, din - rin, and others.

* A sentence becomes formal or respectful when the word "po" is added.

Note:

  • Kindly help me enrich this thread by posting your queries, comments, appreciations here… or list additional directional terms.

Have fun learning Filipino languages!!!
