Filipino Sentence Construction

*** under construction ***

Filipino sentences can be formed with one word or a group of words.

One word:
The following are examples of one-word sentences.

  • Umuulan. (It is raining.)
  • Salamat. (Thank you.)

Two words:
The following are examples of sentences in a form of "verb - object"
  • Mahal kita. "Mahal" stands for love and "kita" is you, so "mahal kita" in English is "I love you."
  • Masaya ako. "Masaya" stands for happy and "ako" is me. When written in English it will become "I am happy."

Another form could be when you add po in a word. "Po" is used to make the sentence more respectful.
  • Salamat po. (Thank you.)
  • Hindi po. (No)

More than two words:
  • Siya ay matapang. (S/he is brave.)
  • Ang bata ay matalino (The child is intelligent.)

Have fun learning Filipino languages!!!
