RE: Filipino Patriotism

What you've written under the "Panatang Makabayan" is the classic or the old version... School children nowadays are using the REVISED "Panatang Makabayan" which goes like this:

Revised Panatang Makabayan

Iniibig ko ang Pilipinas,
aking lupang sinilangan,
tahanan ng aking lahi,
kinukupkop ako at tinutulungang
maging malakas, masipag at marangal.

Dahil mahal ko ang Pilipinas,
diringgin ko ang payo ng aking magulang,
susundin ko ang tuntunin ng paaralan,
tutuparin ko ang tungkulin
ng mamamayang makabayan:
naglilingkod, nag-aaral at nagdarasal
ng buong katapatan.

Iaalay ko ang aking buhay,
pangarap, pagsisikap
sa bansang Pilipinas.

... Personally, I much prefer the classic version... It has more depth and more meaning... That second line on the revised version: "Dahil mahal ko ang Pilipinas, diringgin ko ang payo ng aking magulang,..." seems soo I don't know how to say it. I mean, you can still love your parents and follow school rules or the law even if you don't love Philippines that much! oh no! that doesn't sound good! lol... Well, I hate the "trapos" and they're part of the Philippines. So, the operative words for that is "don't love that much"!!! lol... I love my parents and I love Philippines BUT I much prefer the classic version. Maybe because I grew up reciting it, thus, has more meaning to me!

RE: Filipino Patriotism

Oh, I saw the revised one, but like you, I also prefer the classic one that's why I put that here instead. All you wrote is what I feel as well personally... it has more meaning and I too recited that in class! Smile
