Filipino Counting Values / Numbers

The following are counting terms used in the Filipino languages…

Numbers: Numero or Bilang

0 – wala
1 – isa
2 – dalawa
3 – tatlo
4 – apat
5 – lima
6 – anim
7 – pito
8 – walo
9 – siyam
10 – sampu

For the numbers 11 to 19, one has to affix the word “labing” before each number, in the same manner that in the English languages the suffix |–teen| is added after a number.
11 – labing-isa
12 – labing-dalawa
13 – labing-tatlo
14 – labing-apat
15 – labing-lima
16 – labing-anim
17 – labing-pito
18 – labing-walo
19 – labing-siyam

For the numbers 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80 and 90, one has to combine the terms for the numbers 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9 and the word “sampu”, but scrap some letters from “sampu” and in some cases add the suffix “na”.
20 – dalawa (2) x sampu (10) = dalawampu
30 – tatlo (3) x sampu (10) = tatlompu
40 – apat (4) x sampu (10) = apatnapu
50 – lima (5) x sampu (10) = limampu
60 – anim (6) x sampu (10) = animnapu
70 – pito (7) x sampu (10) = pitompu
80 – walo (8) x sampu (10) = walompu
90 – siyam (9) x sampu (10) = siyamnapu

For the numbers 21 -29, one has to remember the word for 20 which is “dalawampu”, add the word “at” (and), and then add the number at the ones position. The word “at” is written in short cut scrapping the letter |a| replacing it with an apostrophe.
21 – dalawampu (20) & isa (1) = dalawampu’t isa
22 – dalawampu (20) & dalawa (2) = dalawampu’t dalawa
23 – dalawampu (20) & tatlo (3) = dalawampu’t tatlo
24 – dalawampu (20) & apat (4) = dalawampu’t apat
25 – dalawampu (20) & lima (5) = dalawampu’t lima
26 – dalawampu (20) & anim (6) = dalawampu’t anim
27 – dalawampu (20) & pito (7) = dalawampu’t -pito
28 – dalawampu (20) & walo (8) = dalawampu’t walo
29 – dalawampu (20) & siyam (9) = dalawampu’t siyam

The same principle applies for 31-39, 41-49, 51-59, 61-69, 71-79, 81-89, and 91-99.

Hundred – daan or raan
Thousand – libo
Million – milyon
Billion – bilyon

Notes:

  • I might have forgotten some terms, so, kindly enrich the lists if you can kaibigan (friends) and fellow kababayans (countrymen).
  • If you have further questions, post your queries, comments, appreciations here…

Have fun learning Filipino languages!!!

RE: Filipino Counting Values / Numbers

you should add a topic for telling time! it's somewhat simple, isn't it? cos it's modeled after the spanish way of telling time, like "a las doce na!" (i dunno if i used the right word at the end, but i guess you can understand the general idea...?)
