I think you meant Filipino. Tagalog stayed true to its original form without adaptations whereas Filipino language has evolved from different languages namely Tagalog, English, Spanish, Cebuano, Ilonggo, Ilocano and other local languages. It's the Filipino language that uses substitutions... some accepted Filipino words now can not be understood by a Tagalog (someone who grew up in the Tagalog region) like "kawatan" or thief.

RE: Filipino Color Terms

ah! I learned something else today! I always thought it was wrong to say "Do you speak Filipino?!" Because Tagalog was the language to me and Filipino the race!

RE: Filipino Color Terms

The Tagalogs consider the language they used Tagalog whereas the non-Tagalogs call the language Filipino because, well, they're not Tagalogs... kinda confusing huh?!? lol... Let's just say that Filipino is the widely used form esp. in areas which is the hub of different ethnic groups thus use different local languages. It is the language used by the mass media so, one could say, it's the hybrid variety of Tagalog... lol

For sometime, the Filipino language was also called Pilipino so some still used that name...
