RE: Filipino Color Terms
what the hell, tayum and melokoton?!!! where did u get that.. probably passed down to you by your ancestors...
yes, i believe violet/purple is commonly known as "ube"
blue is commonly called "asul" borrowed from the spanish "azul"
also, most natives use descriptive words for colors.. for example they refer to black as kulay tinta (ink).. and brown as kulay lupa (soil) but modern filipino language now use borrowed words like orange although in a different spelling. Atleast thats what i learned from my filipino class in college.

RE: Filipino Color Terms
The Tagalogs consider the language they used Tagalog whereas the non-Tagalogs call the language Filipino because, well, they're not Tagalogs... kinda confusing huh?!? lol... Let's just say that Filipino is the widely used form esp. in areas which is the hub of different ethnic groups thus use different local languages. It is the language used by the mass media so, one could say, it's the hybrid variety of Tagalog... lol
For sometime, the Filipino language was also called Pilipino so some still used that name...
Actually FILIPINO used in international term coz we dont have any F letters in our own alphabet. PILIPINO is the right one concerning our
race and people. TAGALOG is widely used dialect in our country aside from ENGLISH in communicating especially in greater Manila area
and suburb surrounding Manila capital. TAGALOG also refer to peoples belong to NCR, and province near it.

You're right... originally the Philippine alphabet don't have the |F| letter but nowadays the Philippine alphabet is composed of the 26 letters seen in the English alphabet plus the letters |Ñ| and |NG| that will make 28 letters. But then again, the term Filipino is now the official name for the national language of the Philippines, thus, it's not just used in international scenario but locally, as well... This is further explained in this thread: Filipino Languages FAQ
The term Pilipino WAS the name for the people and race... We are now called Filipino. Filipino is used not only for the people but also to signify the nationality and the citizenship... but yeah we still sometimes use the term Pilipino or more colloquially, Pinoy.
As for the Tagalog language... it is selected as the basis of the national language but it is not the official and national language. Tagalog is not the widely used language in the Philippines, Filipino is...
Well, for more in depth reading... read Filipino language and Filipino people... it's the wiki articles and explains more re: this matter
