Where? There!
You will find that people from different regions in China prefer different words to express the same idea, and putonghua (mandarin) incorporates these varia. For example nar and nali *both 3rd tone* both mean "where" and nar and nali *both 4th tone*, likewise, mean "there". People in the north tend to prefer the "r" sound, as in nar *3rd tone*, whereas southerners prefer a crisper sound, as in nali *3rd tone*.

Negatives
The negative form of most verbs in Chinese is formed by adding the syllable bu *4th tone* (不) before the verb, almost like the word "not" in English. For example:

I know. wo zhi dao
I don't know. wo bu zhi dao

However, with the verb you *3rd tone* (to have), the negative is formed with the syllable mei *2nd tone* (没).

He has money. ta you qian
He doesn't have money. ta mei you qian

Please note that my chinese is northern dialect! (dong bei hua)
