Hi I decided to write some fanfic aorta like a Taiwanese Drama instead of fantasy or tokusatsu.etc for a change. I wonder if I can ask for opinions here in this section. I got a fanfic which I need help on

Basically the fanfiction is about a 宅男[Otaku] finding love.

The Title is 暖血暴龙 aka The Warm Blooded Dinosaur

Ok I have a rough idea of what I want to write but being non-taiwanese, there are somethings I have to consult some Taiwanese or even fans of Taiwanese shows for opinions. Mostly stuff like Taiwanese popular words.etc

I will be adding a lot of twists to the stereotypical Geek main character, Kong Xiao Long nicknamed T-rex.

T-rex is a student who is retaking his exams in order to get into University. He also the oldest in this class of retakers. Refer to the Drama 我要变成硬柿子. The reason why he's the oldest also goes deep into T-rex's past.

He is a kinda like a rogue in a Geek's shell. Just like the dinosaur T-rex, his character is a mix of many dilemmas. He's overweight yet agile, Quiet but loud, Seeks isolation yet craves for company.etc

However there are certain things about Taiwan that I need some of you guys to help me on.

What is the age of enlistment of Taiwanese National Service? I heard that Taiwan also has military service like here in Singapore. Is there some kinda differences like duration.etc And is its possible for someone with a criminal record and a history of psychological problems not to need to serve this national service?

the graduation exam to university.

Any idea what's it called in English

Another few terms which need proper english translation are

Another issue is that I heard that Taiwanese count birthdates differently.
Like say the year 2009 is 1999 年次？ something like that Anyone can tell
me this. Google is not helping much on this aspect

and I finally came up with a title for this fanfic
当小虫变成一条龙 From worm to dragon

It's setting is pretty like the Taiwan drama "我要变成硬柿子" but the characters are really different from what the drama is.

Basically the main character has to go through the hell of this 重考班in
order to get to university. And at the same time fight his inner demons.
