Synopsis
Nobi Nobita is so hapless that his 22nd century decendants are still impoverished as a result of his 20th century bumbling. In a bid to raise their social status, their humble servant, a robotic cat named Doraemon, decides to travel back in time and guide Nobita on the proper path to fortune. Unfortunately Doraemon, a dysfunctional robot that the familly acquired by accident, but chose to keep nonetheless, isn't much better off than Nobita. The robot leads Nobita on many adventures, and while Nobita's life certainly is more exciting with the robot cat from the future, it is questionable if it is in fact better in the way that Doraemon planned.
Review
Doraemon is the best animated series ever to grace all Japan's TV screen because of the fun each episode offers to every watcher back in those rural time or so, that includes me. I remember when I was a little mischievous kid back then, I never fail to miss any of the episodes. Be it with family, friends, or even teachers ! Why do we all, including grown-ups watch it, you would wonder. The answer to it is simple - the FUN !
The story of the show is as follow: Doraemon, a robot-cat from the 22th Century, lives with the Nobi family. In the far future, thanks to Nobi Nobita, a man who lived in our time, the Nobis are poor and with debts everywhere. So to change that situation and give the future Nobis a better life, Doraemon travels back in time, when Nobita was a kid, and lives with him to teach him how to be a better person, as Nobita is a complete slacker.Doraemon has a fourth-dimensional pocket from where he can get all sorts of futuristic gadgets to help Nobita and the present Nobis. Doraemon is also a defective robot - much like Nobita, he barely even studied when he was being fabricated, and etc. Also, a rat ate his ears off, and ever since whenever Doraemon sees a rat he completely freaks out.
And Nobita is just pure dope, in a funny way, that is.His only skill is being able to sleep, dozes away in just about less than 10 seconds, and that's not exactly useful. Every episode follows a pretty similar formula: something happens to Nobita, Nobita runs home and complains about it, Doraemon help him sorts his way out by giving him a gadget, Nobita over-uses it, and wackiness ensues. And for some other episodes, replace "Nobita" with some other character.
Sounds repetitive, maybe even boring, but it's certainly not! Doraemon is a big icon in Japan, and for a reason: good Ole' fun. Some episodes have even dark tones (Devil's Passport, anybody?, Say Cheese, Evil...), some of them are really sad, it's a whole variety. The supporting characters are great, too: Suneo, the rich-spoiled guy; Shizuka, the cute girl on whom Nobita has a crush on; Takashi, also known as "Gian", the big bully in the whole story; Nobita's mother and her nervous breakdowns, it's all good. I strongly recommend any living homo-sapiens to watch Doraemon any given chance. Give it a whirl, it's the funniest show ever. Try watching it after a hard day at work or school, and you'll see what I mean. Overall, good show, enjoy !
