RE: Do you have a laptop?
I have a new Vaio FE series. It's super sweet and fast. The screen is really nice on them. It's got a 15.4 in widescreen glossy finish and the colors are amazing. So far I haven't had any issues with it and love it. Sony also offers an upgrade program so you can do like trade in. I got mine on Sony credit for zero interest and payments for 12 months. Otherwise I would have gotten a macbook pro.

RE: Do you have a laptop?
if you're gonna be sitting at home most of the time, like if you go to a local university, then stick to desktops. they offer tremendous amounts of performance at ridiculously low prices, especially when compared to laptops. plus they are easily customizable with watever video/sound cards you want and extra hard drives.
on the other hand, if you plan to travel a lot with your comp, if you're studyin away from home, if you plan to spend a lotta time at the library wit your comp or watever, then getting a laptop is a good choice. you can easily find a dual-core processor laptop for under 1k cd nowadays. core 2 duos aren't too expensive either. plus, laptops can have as much as 2gbs ram and some pretty huge hard drives, so while they certainly can't replace desktops, they can support some of the newest games and such, as long as u find one wit a good video card. however, laptops do get quite warm quite quickly, so dont' expect to be able to hold it on your lap for 3 hours.
dell's usually offer some pretty good value, except for their exploding battery incident last year cuz of the sony batteries they used. sony vaio's are really nice, except they are at premium prices while offering non-premium performance. hp and compaq aren't bad, they have a lotta low-end ones for basic operations, as well as some nice higher-end ones wit built in cameras and watnot. asus laptops have really nice specs at reasonable prices but their reliability is quite questionable. my friend had one that kinda...died halfway thru the year, and he has to ship it to the states from canada to get it fixed. i use a toshiba; its alright, a little over 6 lbs, dual core, 1gb ram, 120 gb hard drive at a reasonable price with a bunch of software and a printer. i used to think 120 gbs was huge, until i found myself running out of space on my hard drive cuz i downloaded so much crap, haha.

RE: Do you have a laptop?
I have an ACER and have not had any problems with it. I take it every time we go on a road trip into the States to keep in touch, work or even watch movies.

Haha speaking of costco, you could actually return that laptop anytime since they don't really have a policy on it.
policy is not the same

RE: Do you have a laptop?
I have a Dell e1705, but the vid card overheated and its currently broke. Only way to replace it is to find the same card off ebay which sells for $300 at the moment
