some older people may hate each other 'cos of history but I think it's different along younger people.

Yah. To add to that. I think it's only the previous generations before us who still, more or less, feel some resentment.

For instance, coming from a Chinese family. I do rarely hear convos from relatives, about their Japanese sentiment. When I first spoke a little Japanese during family gatherings, some family members didn't react in a pleasant way. My aunt told me about their corrupt domination, torture, WWII in the Pacific, and this and that... which I already know pretty well. I was like... "Please aunty, you can't be serious. This is informational age. What's done is done." And so the topic was dropped.

Maybe it doesn't impact me so much as it did to my elders. To them, it may have been a searing scar.

RE: Do Japanese people hate Chinese?
My sentiment is with Lego. I come from a Chinese family and when I asked my mom and dad their feelings, they were pretty much nuetral. However, when I commented that I couldn't not understand the Chinese and Japanese hatred, my mom and dad retorted with pride and anger, saying that the Japanese had killed a lot of Chinese. There is a pink elephant in the room with the Chinese and Japanese, especially when the Japanese hasn't formally apologized to the Chinese about what they did in WWII(at least from what I've heard). But I don't think you'll be attacked if your Japanese walking on Chinese ground and vise versa.

I am Chinese but I don't hate Jap. Prob cause I am based in Singapore I have different view on the hate thing. I think most Chinese are fine and so are the Japs. Prob different with the older generation in China cause of the previous conflicts.

RE: Do Japanese people hate Chinese?
I originally thought the same as some of these people on this thread, that this is the modern world, and there was no hate. But my own experience is, yes, they do. The Japanese do hate Chinese people.

But I am Chinese-American and experienced the Japanese dislike for Chinese firsthand. I am a student of Japanese and wanted to do Japanese/English language exchange so I posted an ad, stating that I'm Asian-American.

I got a response from a very excited Japanese woman who wanted to meet as soon as possible for language. We exchanged a few nice e-mails and spoke on the phone briefly. However, when she found out I was Asian via a photo that I sent to her prior to what was supposed to be our first, she messaged me to cancel our meeting. She said that she had not noticed that I was a person of Chinese origin before and was not ok with it.

This is a true story. So much for living in the modern world. Even Asian-Americans who don't even speak a word Chinese and have nothing to do with China are still hated by Japanese. And this happened in my own backyard in New York City. It makes me wonder what the hell I have been doing by learning the language of people who don't like me.

The Japanese may look similar and seem familiar but it's only superficial.

RE: Do Japanese people hate Chinese?
I'm a jap myself straight from Tokyo and been in US for several years.

All I want to say is "Please ignore those fu##ing b!tches!"

Those chicks aren't interested in language exchange thing at all.
They all are obsessed with English-speaking "white" dudes.
I assume the girl was too stupid that she didn't even read your subject of your posting states that you are asian-american.
(Well, I don't know the exact detail of your story so I just "assume" it. I might be wrong.)
If she paticulary doesn't like chinese, I gotta say it's very odd.

And this is my answer to this thread which is asking if japs hate chinese people.
I have A LOT of chinese friends here. Actually, most of my best friends here are all ABCs. (you know what this stands for of course) We get along very well. And their parents are from all over the mainland and Hong Kong. Obviously, I don't hate Chinese.

I even asked them if they or their family hate japs. They all said the same thing. "Well, I don't. Otherwise we never hang out you kno? but my parents or grand parents might have some feelings... not bad tho"

Do you guys think I'm just a typical quiet jap who never hate anyone?
NO, I'm not. I do hate a particular type of people.
=I hate people who hate me.=

Man, I know how hard to learn foreign languages based on my own experience so I hope your bad experience doesn't discourage you...
