Devil Beside You
Synopsis
Devil Beside You stars Ranie Yang and Mike He as Qi Yue and Ah Meng. At the beginning, Qi Yue is in love with the basketball star, Yuan Yi, but she accidentally drops her love letter to him in front of Ah Meng, a rude, inconsiderate, and ill-tempered guy. Ah Meng then threatens to reveal her love letter unless she becomes his servant. Qi Yue reluctantly agrees and initially hates him, but as she spends more and more time with Ah Meng, they begin to have deeper and deeper feelings for eachother. Unfortunately, there are many problems such as the fact that Ah Meng's father and Qi Yue's mother are actually engaged! Also there is competition of love from many others as well.
Review
Devil Beside You is quite the emotional Taiwanese drama. The best part is that the ending is actually somewhat happy and finalized. Also I liked the fact that there were so many different problems and obstacles that Ah Meng and Qi Yue had to endure, which made the series feel very episodic. Very episode usually introduced some sort of new love interest or problem. Also there was qutie a bit of focus on the problems of other characters such as Qing Zi/Yuan Yi, Li Xiang/Yang Ping, and Yali/Sisen (All of them are supporting characters in this drama).
The acting was pretty good although I initially disliked how Mike portrayed Ah Meng, but by the end of the movie I loved the character (although at the end I had a brief moment of hate, which you will understand once you watch it - don't worry it's for dramatic effect). The supporting cast was also very strong and each character was well portrayed. But I didn't like the character Yuan Yi as much because he acted too much like a little sissy most of the time. Rainie and Mike had great on-screen chemistry, and they had a very realistic relationship including fights and sex.
I thought the music was so-so, Rainie is decent at singing, but I didn't really like the opening theme too much. However, since the series is called "Devil Beside You" the theme was appropriate. There is a good mix of heavy -rock-sounding music and lighter, more pretty sounds, which added a lot of emotion.
Personally, Mike He is one of my favorite actors so I really enjoyed this drama series. To all girls, he is quite possibly one of the hottest Taiwanese actors I have ever seen. Guys, I'm sure you will think Rainie is a really cute and sweet girl after seeing this series. She sure acted the part of the innocent girl perfectly.
This series is highly recommended for anyone who is looking to watch a happier series (I hate sad endings, seriously). Also this is quite a fast-paced series and is also very interesting throughout.
