China Blocks Users From Accessing Youtube
[Image: top_youtube_logo_31_Dec_06.jpg]

YouTube confirmed its website was being blocked in China, although there were no explanation as for why the Chinese authorities was restricting access to the popular video-sharing service.

"YouTube has been blocked in China since yesterday," company spokesman Scott Rubin said.

"We do not know the reason for the blockage, and we're working as quickly as possible to restore access to our users in China."

Chinese authorities have a history of blocking websites they deem politically unacceptable or offensive.

However, some say that riots between China and Tibetan Dubai Lama is one of the major causes of the blockage. Some of the videos being shown featured hundreds of uniformed Chinese soldiers running through a Tibetan monastery, some of them beating a man with batons.

In another scene, uniformed soldiers kick, drag and beat several men and women who are lying on the ground, some of them with their hands bound behind their backs.

i guess that's how it goes in a communist country... no matter what the government officially tells the public, there's a lot of restrictions, esp where it concerns the public image of the controlling parties...

I believe that the PRC (the government) is simply protecting its image from the entire globe. It is probably politically motivated to shut access from the website. The PRC has the right to control media flow from it’s territories. There is no international law restricting a nation to prevent/block/control media coverage whether in the internet or on the air especially if a country's integrity is at stake.
If the government of the PRC categorizes YOUTUBE as an offensive media, YOUTUBE cannot do anything about it but to appeal from the PRC government.
