"Butterfly Lovers" Beijing premiere; Chun, Charlene & Hu Ge promote

Upcoming movie “Butterfly Lovers” is about to air and yesterday, main leads Chun, Charlene, Hu Ge and actions director Chen Xiao Dong came to Beijing to promote. During an interview, when talking about the plot of 2 guys chasing one girl in the movie, Charlene and Hu Ge both laughed and said that in this movie, the story should allow for one girl to have more than one husband, this way, the ending of the movie will not seem as tragic and sad.
This modern version of “Butterfly Lovers” uses the original version as a base, but includes many new fresh things, such as including in the spirit of martial arts and also using traditional costumes incorporated in the modern concept of love. Charlene’s performance in this movie received praises from not only the director, but also the 2 male leads. Director Ma said that although Charlene is a bit tom-boy, her acting as a girly feminine girl was surprisingly good. Also, in the movie, she and Harlem, who plays a grass-head uncle, adds a lot of funny scenes into the movie. For example, when she goes into the mountains with her father’s scroll painting, to find grass-head. When grass-head opens the scroll, the picture is actually of a bald fat man. Grass-head shakes his head and says to her, “I’ve eaten the wrong grass medicine, lead to diarrhoea, and then I turned skinny, and even hair started growing on my head. Aii, too bad, look at how dashing I was back then!”
Earlier, when Charlene was promoting “Butterfly Lovers”, she had said that if this was her first time filming, she would’ve fallen in love with Chun, and after photos of them eating dinner together came out, the media titled it as “evidence” of their love. However, Charlene firmly insists that she and Chun are only in love in the movie. She says, “Everytime I go eat dinner with anyone, the media will use it to create rumours, and this makes me speechless, but afterwards even photos were taken, so hence we used this chance for promotion so we made a huge sign and came out holding it. Since the media will not write anything good about me, might as well take this as a good opportunity to get more people to notice our movie.” She also jokingly said that she and Hu Ge are “wine/meat buddies”; everyone eating dinner together is very normal.

In the movie, the 3 main leads’ good understanding of each other and co-operation leaves a deep imprint on the audience, naturally the media will not want to let go of the chance for the 3 of them to give opinions about each other. Hence, they requested this. Hu Ge said that from the beginning he was very impressed by Chun: “If I was to say, I think that Chun is like a knight, actually if I was to say more correctly, a holy knight, because in the game, holy knights not only belong to a career where fight capacity exceeds all others, but also can help other people to heal.” Hu Ge continued and said, “In other words, this means that he looks tough on the outside, but on the inside, he has a warm heart.” Chun expressed that he really likes Mel Gibson’s character in “Braveheart”, “like those very tender and passioniate people, I hope that in the future, I can have more those kinds of roles.”
On the topic of Charlene, Hu Ge praised her for being a little pixie, but a good pixie, not those evil ones. He says that anywhere that has Charlene there, will be very lively and have a good atmosphere. Finally, Hu Ge says that he himself is a wizard. Charlene also praises Hu Ge, using her not fluent Mandarin and saying that he is “ Not Ji (meaning unrestricted)”. However, in Mandarin, this word sounds like “Gay” and this almost gave Hu Ge a heart attack, “GAY? Scared me to death, I thought you said I’m gay!”

Although Chun has recently become very popular in the music industry, in the movie world, he is a still a newbie. Yesterday, at the press conference, it was noticed that he was very nervous. It was not until small group of reporters started interviewing, that he relaxed. When a female reporter praised his good body and said that a lot of girls screamed in the audience when they saw him topless in the movie. Chun thought seriously for a while before saying that this shouldn’t be something that strange. However, the most cold humour was during Charlene’s interview. When Charlene was describing the storyline of the movie to reporters, she used “Zhong Xi He Bi” (meaning Chinese and Western combined) to describe the movie, grafting between the 2 stories of “Butterfly Lovers” and “Romeo and Juliet”. Born in Brunei, Chun suddenly very seriously cut in and asked, “What’s Zhong Xi He Bi?” Reporters at the scene thought that he was playing cold humour, but his manager awkwardly explained that “Chun’s vocabulary does not have these words” and hence Charlene had to explain in detail to him what it meant!
